Mk4 Advice
Hiya mate really nice mk4 love the colour and that conversion sounds top. I was hoping for a little bit of advice Ive just landed myself a near mint escort 1.3 popular 1989 60k on the clock. picked up some capri pepperpots 7x13J as well and I was wondering weather it would be best to lower it by 40mm or 60mm?(just springs no dampers//
stretched tyres) I was also wondering how to go about getting an engine conversion Im going for the sleeper look and I really admire what you have done with yours any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

well when folk were busy watching the royal wedding, i decided to swap the engine in my Bonus for one i've had sitting a couple of weeks!
Old engine out:
Up in the air:
New engine:
New engine in:
Its an ST170 lump with Weber Alpha throttle bodies, which came from Ade's estate 8-)
Its all in, just the wiring to do and few water pipes and alternator - cant wait to get her running and hear the bodies

Cheers for all comments
New lump is estimated at about 185 bhp - hoping to get it on rollers when up and running to check all is ok and a power run so will report back when have an exact figure!
Ade broke his estate up due to other ongoing projects.

Well she is up and running and just to get dash back in, and a few niggles sorted out.
Some kind of fast & modified show at Knockhill at weekend I was hoping to make but will depend how she is running!

If you are considering the springs id go for new shocks (unless they r recently new) past experiance, i bought the springs took the shocks off and they were nackered and was stuck with having to put nackered shocks back on!

Yep - the 1300 brakes only just did the job with the silvertop in lol so now running upgraded RST stuff with braided hoses etc. Plan to upgrade to Cossie stuff in the future but these will do for time being.
Think the bodies need set up as not running as sweetly as they should, appears 2 x trumpets are sucking in more air than the others (one is hardly taking any in) but apart from that everything seems ok

If you want looks over comfortabiliy id go for 60mm but personal choice im avoiding it on my mk4 and goin for the 40 option. the shocks work so much better with the 40 springs as aposed to the 60 and iv had 60mm on my e30 n si fiesta and i regret doing it...given half the chance i wouldav gone 40

Hey Ross like the motor. Don't bother with the RS brakes just get the ST170 disks and mondy calipers. It has made a world of difference to mine as was so easy to fit.

Cheers Kev, would like to go down the ST170 route brake wise but want to stick on 15s and not sure they will fit over as thought the discs were 300mm?
Fitted my front Koni's last night and was going well till the gearbox decided to launch itself! Job for the weekend

not updated this in a while but turned out to be just a driveshaft that had failed and gearbox was fine so happy days - shaft swapped and away again.
Car got checked over at weekend at Sitech Racing, adjusted the fuelling slightly and balanced the bodies which saw it produce 180 bhp and running/driving much better.
Just getting it ready now for the run to Ford Fair!

nice car mate, mine was much like yours except i got carried away and its not much like a bonus now.
i would say looks wise its a good idea to decide which way you want to go and stick with it, meaning if you want it to look standard like a sleeper then maybe go 15" steels and try conceal the exhaust a bit, they can look just as good as a car with spoilers etc with alot less work.
once i fitted alloys / rs bonnet and roll cage i decided mine looked too modified to be a sleeper so carried on going with it.
engine looks good, was the mouning the same?

I like to think of it as the 'South London' look - lowered on period wheels, all one colour with something interesting under the bonnet
Mounting was very similar but needed to do a very small mod to the chassis to get the mount lining up.
