Are you prepping the shell? Rub down, filler, tiny covering of primer etc or are you leaving it all to the body shop?

 

i would of loved to have been able do all the prep as i love all that stuff, i used paint barges/narrowboats from start to finish and my fav bits was the prepping as without good prep the end result will always be poor no matter how good a painter you are.

but the bodyshop will be doing it all as i really dont have the time to do anything atm got so much going on.

 

you would be p**sed if the paint work doesnt come out as good as you would like. hopefully you'll find a good bodyshop near you and get it done sooner. are you making any slight changes to the body? open up by the intercooler or smooth bits etc.

 

oh for sure mate, but if im not happy it will go back until its right, it wont come to that though im lucky to know a few good painters

not making any changes just refreshing bits like the lights/indicators/rear window plastics/seals etc etc also got a set of oe decals to go on

 

ready to rock n roll as you can see new jr air filter and alloy oil breather



just needs a good clean in there and a bit of a fettle with the fuelling

 

Looks nice, the hose from the inlet onto the i/c pipe is that the best fit poss? Any joy with a painter yet?

hoping to get my soundsystem all wired in sometime soon, dont worry its no big chavvy subs etc etc, just a nice 800w amp, 6.5" components in the front and set of 550w 7x10 speakers for the rear, i like nice clear crisp sounds and if i can get it sounding like my old system in the mg ill be very happy

 

Sound system sounds spot on, are the 7x10s 3 way coax? What Headunit are you using? Check the power handling of the speakers before connecting to the amp. 4x200@4 ohm think you'll find the speakers might be 100w - 200w. Start the gains at 1/4 level

 

they are 4 way full range 7x10s with 550 peak and 275rms

ill check n the head unit its either jvc or pioneer, its 50x4 i do know that. Cant you tell its been that long since iv been in the car that i cant remember what head unit i have lol

 

bit of an update

got another painter coming to look at the car this saturday, only thing is i wont be around as im in chesterfield for a rolling road day, no probs though as my mate knows exactly what i want doing.
fingers crossed all is well and we can get the ball rolling asap

on saturday rtoc/r5gtt owneers had a rolling road meet at noble motorsport in chesterfield that i organised. There was a very good turnout considering that 7 people had to pull out due to one reason or another.
i will have copies of the graphs and vids of all the cars to add soon

big update on my car, just heard back from the painter and he can get my car in within the next 2 weeks fingers crossed it will be back on road before start of june happy days

yes i know that car very well as i knew the previous owner, and i have go to know this owner.

it used to run 224bhp on its old engine but previous owner removed that before he sold it. paul the current owner has spent a small fortune on putting the car right and has just built the engine for it, only thing was the rollers showed it to be hugely down on power but make no mistake it has all the goodies to be in the 200+ club

just received my replica oe decals that will be going on my car after its been sprayed, these should really finish it off nicely

small update, iv just bought brand new clear side repeaters and clear front indicators, looking into getting new front headlights and rear light clusters as well.

 

went up to my car after work, cleaned the seats up ready to give them a coating of red dye tomorrow morning, nice cheap alternative to forking out for a new set

also fitted new external window seal/rubber to drivers side whilst i was there

 

had a really productive morning working on my car, got a first coat of dye on the front seats, then decided to set the fuelling/idle up.
Took quite a while as it was running a bit groggy and kept cutting out, was really lean so whipped carb off and fitted a new base gasket (which was missing) thanks to my mate who called in the garage.

put it all back together had a bit of a fettle and got it idling/running sweet, idles bang on 1k with afr of 14.2-14.5.

I've just got back from snetterton, I beat my mate in practice but then it rained at lunch, I took it easy on my first lap and was looking forward to my next one but my mate had a crash on his second competitive lap and wrote the car off so our day ended short.

 

yes the dye will really bring the seats up well, gonna do 3 nice thin even coats to them both.

I'm waiting for the disc if pics to go up in the shop and ill buy it and ill send you some. Only pics I have are the state of my mates car that I was dual driving. It's was really packed with all the motorbikes running on the other track.
A orange Scooby caught fire then later on crashed into the concrete barrier and have 12 days to do body work and get it ready for time attack.

big happy update

had a phone call off my mate yesterday who has informed me that my car will be going in next week for painting looks like ill be living on beans on toast in june lol.

 

Glad the car is going in soon for paint you have been waiting long enough lol. When I get 5 mins tonight ill load the pics up and send them in a pm to you

 

well i can now confirm that my car is going in to be painted next tuesday were nearly there now so bring on the summer

also purchased my tickets for the cholmondeley pageant of power in june so this is my aim to have the car ready for.

 

Not long then to get it back together and test it out and tweak a few things.

 

yes matey not long at all, i was told car will be going tues morning and he will start it tues afternoon
hopefully will get it up to wgt to run on there hub dyno again to see if we have gained anything

 

looking forward to getting my car back on the road, will be very interesting to see what power it makes baring in mind it did 230bhp 213lb/ft @23psi in 2011 running hugely rich 10.6afr at wot and on 2" bore system. since then iv got the fuelling leaned out and had a full turbo back 2.5" bore system fitted and added a billet comp wheel which will certainly flow more. Ill be happy with anything over 230 and 220lb/ft

The car is now at the paintshop i called round after work yesterday to drop my camera off so he can take pics of all progress etc. He also assured me it would be ready for june so it looks like cholmondeley pageant of power will be its first outing.
