Default Is my car worth a feature?

My first time so i dont know what standards the mags are.
Fast ford? Performance ford mag owners?

Is my car upto standard to get a feature? i've spent time on this car aswell as in the workshops being redone and improved.

What else can i improve with this? i know it needs a repaint on the boot and also i have a minnor dint/scratch on the passanger side front wing.

Pictures are here and a little about the car.

The Cars is/

Escort RS Turbo S2 1987 - built 90spec.
Engine is running a 1.8 turboed CVH running 246bhp @ the flywheel.
Full engine rebuild aswell.
Running a T3 turbo
Underside repaint
Loads more with all info

Here are some pictures

And a few more.

Post away

What makes it different to any other S2?

Has it got a story behind it?

The M3 mirrors, raised bonnet (looks like its been in a crash and spoils the otherwise clean lines of it) and wheels all look a bit "tacky" TBH in my humble opinion.

I'd be surprised if any of the mags wanted to feature it, there are SO many clean RST's out there, that when the only things that really define yours as different are not in good taste anyway, I dont see why they would want it.

That said, its a lovely clean car, and im sure you are very proud of it, and so you should be, I just dont think its feature material personally.

By the way, when taking a picture from that angle, turn the wheel the other way, so you see the wheel not the tyre.

Like so:

I think that having a story makes a car more interesting, in the case of mine, it started life as these two:

Sorry mate, I havent got a topic for mine, and with regards to what angles, just look in the mags and copy the poses they do, always helps when you submit your car for a feature if its well presented in a photo in the first place.

You can read the feature on mine here if you like:

Nice one on the wheels, diamond cut rim or something might be a way to make them look a little different while still keeping it tasteful?

I work for Total Vauxhall magazine these days (sister company to fast ford) and trying to get a corsa featured is SO hard as there are so many awesomely well done corsas out there, but getting a calibra in the mag is easy as there are so few that are done well, so less competition.

So I think that the problem you have of course for getting a feature is the amount of competition in terms of other RS Turbos.

looks a very tidy car, but as said i am not keen on the bonnet raisers, wing mirrors or the indercators in the front bumper. The wheels would look cool in white

what does that mean did it leave the factory with 90 spec bumper and spoiler? or have u changed them?
mines also a d reg 1987 but has 90 spec bumper and spoiler and also seats.most likely someone swapped the bits to 90 spec, but just wondered if any left the factory like it?

the car was built from factory in germany as sated in my owners docs, good to have a mum that speaks german and also is german.

the cars a D plate 1987 80spc that's how it left the factory, i then updated it with 90spec everything incl engine. thats only done 2000miles and + a running in 1000miles when engine was rebuilt.

sorry for the confuson

Well built, good spec and power but most feature cars have that something 'extra'. 300+hp, Concours, MASSIVE Spec, different look etc.

Not taking anything away you've built that just right and when the little bits are done like M3 mirrors as said it'll be perfect.

What wheels you thinking?

I started off with a broken saxo and wanted something faster and much smarter.
I didn't like the idear of the saxo braking system as it wasnt safe braking hard'' Nice Tail out and sliding effects.

I sat in the office looking for 4months after a clean starting RST that wasnt over modd'ed. This pop'ed up.

Been sat in the garage for 6years as the owner got himself a nice vauxhall VXR so i called him and ask'ed questions, about 2hours on the phone so i thought Road trip. headed off to birmingham while being paid to work me and my boss got in the jag and had a trip down.. Well worth the 2hurs traffic wait. Met the owner and his work place and headed down to his unit where he stored the car, nice clean workshop for a gimp haha.

I brought with me all the relivent tools and gear to look around the car, Got it on his ramp and started looking everywhere, even had the pleasure of taking the bumpers off for over spray.

But before i even went to view i got my self a HPI check done with my RAC.

so as we were looking at this and nice a clean, smart and not been abused. So i asked him what he wanted, 3K so i called my main man and he headed down to birmingham with his traller to collect my new goods. I started off with cleaning as normal and just enjoying driving it, I then got into some trouble with mr officer for my stupidness of enjoying it, What was worse is the fact i didnt just damage my wallet, i also damaged the engine, Me being new to RST's i had no clue but my NVQ 3 learning about cars came to mine and mikes attention, this be a man with a 400bhp built corsa turbo. running NOS.

So i called him around and we had a play. he told me that i never checked the timming and it was out a fair bit causing wear on the turbo + rings. Opppps so i called a guy i knew from sev's and asked what he could sort me, He advised me to not bother with a ZVH as my insurance was a massive amount so i got onto sorting a 1.8 out and wow what a job he did, We went and picked it up down near cornwal as thats where he sent it for some extra bits he did for me. Nice cold trip down.

Got the engine in and wow, Looked Very nice....
looks aint anything its how it runs, so we cracked on and started building everything up now i needed a new turbo due to blowing the old one so ebay i went and got a near brand new one that coverd 23miles and we got it fitted, Set everything up and got it ready for a mate of mikes who builds rst's who is ganna set me everything up. Turns up and gets the timming sorted aswell as checking the fueling and other bits. Cranks the car over and runs like a dream, Got it set up with a timming gun and job was good, loaded up the car ready to take home, Wow it ran sweet.

Next was to get onto the ride hight and handling. Drop'ed it onto coilovers and lowered it 60mm.

I've spent 4months working on improveing the car and my mirrows should be here soon enuff. replacement wheels and it should be minted.

After this xmas im planing on sending it to a mate of my boss'es who is a exspert on paint work, i was debaiting to keep it red which i ended up sticking with, Now once this winter and xmas is over ill have it sent down for some inside work and underside then i can start on a full restore on the under side with working front to back

English used cheap crap metal
Swis's used the same crap metal
and the germans made the best RST's bodywork wise as the used a better metrial

All Cars reach that age where they "look better standard", and i think the S2's are now at that stage.

If you look at most "special" cars, they all start standard, are heavily modified over the years, the trends get over done, and in the end everyone realises how nice the car looked in the first place.

Take the S1 Rst, it went through its growing up years with, Azev A's, clear indicators, stupidly squeeky dump valves, colour coding the rubber bump stops.
You ask nearly anyone no, and the answer will be "do not change the Outside of an S1.

Even the escort cosworth, ive noticed people wanting to go back to the original wheels and the orange indicators, and an oval exhaust tip like the O.E ones

Yor car is soooo straight and you should be very proud of it.

But as you can see buy most of the comments here, loose the M3's, loose the wheels, loose the bonnet spacers, and you will get a lot more intrest in the car.

As for features, Theres only one way to find out and thats contact the guys at the mags.

Yes or NO, your car is one of the better ones out there, especially if you loose the "boy racer styling mods".

When i finished my S1 i too wanted a mag feature, but i didnt ask the mainstream mags, as in my opinion, once youve seen one S1 youve seen the all. So i decided to do a feature in the Rally News instead.

In my opinion I would keep the alloys as they look nice but add the smoked/red rear lights and the clear side repeaters but get rid of the bonnet raiser's, orange indicators in the front bumper and I think the M3 wing mirrors, I like them from the front but I'm starting to dislike the way they stick up from the side that's why I'm thinking of taking MY one's off next year and putting back my standard one's.

Other than that it's a very nice rs

Build the car for yourself, not the mags. After all a shoot for a mag is great, but if the car is built up just for them and you don't genuinely like it yourself whats the point in doing it? The cars that seemed to get featured alot nowadays are mental projects that are probably only descent for track or shows.
I personally really like the way your's looks, very clean. Alloys i think would suit a black RS more, so that's about the only thing i would change myself, oh that and straightening up that exhaust

Personally, I don't think it matters what angle you take a picture, means jack unless you have a proper car with a good spec in the photo.

Your S2 looks a tidy example and the underside looks good from what I can see in the pics, but I don't think its feature worthy really. Mags look for unique things, something that jumps out at them. PM FastFord Neil on this forum, he'll be honest with you and give you the answers you need

But then again, this does look a lot like a red S2 with quad lamps and wolfrace wheels that was featured a few years ago!

I'd take the tacky indicators out and smooth the holes, and loose the bonnet raisers and wheels

Ditto, i don't like the bonnet raisers or M3 mirrors, I think VooDoo's look ok though. At the end of the day mate your better off building it how you like it rather than to feature in a mag. As already said above though its a nice clean S2 but nothing on it is cutting edge to promote a mag feature and has been done lots of times before.

I personally would rather read about real world cars like this though, as appose to 1000 BHP cars from Malta that have had 20k spent on there engines and are way out of reach for most people.

^^^^ 2nded

to me fast ford now seems to have a lot of high end race cars - im only 15 so at the moment i havent even got a car, when i do get one i want to read about other peoples first cars not drag monsters from greece or norway cossies.

no offence to any of the mags as they are great cars but we need more proper road cars

Quick Reply: Is my car worth a feature?
