I can't get over how good the high ISO shots are from your D3 nomad, even at ISO 800 my D80 is getting worse results than that and anything over is at times unuseable!

Muska its because its full frame, the bigger the sensor the less noise, you still have to expose correctly tho, i tend to underexpose a lot of bird pics so the whites dont blow, which creates noise in other areas, cheers martyn

Pa Sjo i agree, there are some great cameras out there for very little money, i used to have a nikon D70s which was really good, you can pick them up for peanuts second hand, a DSLR should produce better results than a point and shoot due to the sensor size, tbh i used to think my pictures were ace, then i went on some critique forums and got shot down in flames,
I then enrolled at evening class, three courses later and my stuff is now better than when i started,
I think if your looking for specifics such as working in low light/moving subjects/no flash then you get the equipment to suit your needs, the bird shots are good practice for me, i learn loads about narrow DOF, movement etc,
heres one taken at 1/800th , iso 1600. cheers nomad

Some photo's from over that side of the world would be great whenever i think of Hong Kong etc i think bright neon lights n busy streets!

When did you leave Newcastle? It's really came on leaps and bounds since around 2000. The Quayside area is now a photography hotspot, lol.

PS you're a lucky git being able to get cheap lenses n equipment,... i hate you [/quote]

I haven't been back since 2001 I think, but I lived there in the 80's and 90's!!!

There are certainly lots of bright neons and busy streets here, really good for photography...... and did I mention that equipment is cheap here too???

Keep the great photos coming

I had a look around the Sunderland Marina last night but unfortunately there wasn't a great deal there to snap, and the photos i did end up taking weren't too impressive heres one of the better ones

No, I never use filters at night. The only filter i have is a circular polarizing one, which i only use during the day when required.

That marina pic was taken with an exposure of 25s, aperture f10, ISO 200, 30mm focal length, light source set to tungsten.

I've not tried writing with sparklers yet, only a torch, but i am prepared with a few packets of sparklers in the house

Those pics came out quite nice mind, very good first attempt

Have you got a tripod yet? or were you resting it on a table indoors?
