Default mk4 Escort 1.3 Bonus - 2.0 zetec conversion

Here's a quick thread on my wee run about cos i'm deadly bored at work - got it pretty cheap and just put a couple of bits on it I had lying about to make it respectable lookin - its a clean wee shell for its age:

Name: 000_0131.jpg
Views: 1548
Size: 47.4 KB

Name: 000_0130.jpg
Views: 1118
Size: 46.1 KB

But not the quickest car - 1.3 with 4 spd box lol so out it comes:

Name: 100_0574.jpg
Views: 1864
Size: 45.9 KB

To be replaced with a 1.8 zetec 16v from a K reg XR3i:

Name: 100_0582.jpg
Views: 676
Size: 33.7 KB

Here's my old man stripping old engine for some parts we need for conversion:

Name: 100_0577.jpg
Views: 687
Size: 45.9 KB

Nice empty bay:

Name: 100_0578.jpg
Views: 700
Size: 46.2 KB

Hairdo putting a new timing belt on - (with a hammer??)

Name: 100_0583.jpg
Views: 618
Size: 39.6 KB

Then, hey presto its in!

Name: 100_0598.jpg
Views: 781
Size: 47.4 KB

Name: 100_0591.jpg
Views: 972
Size: 42.6 KB

Name: 100_0587.jpg
Views: 634
Size: 50.0 KB

And a couple of more recent pics:

Name: 100_0603.jpg
Views: 581
Size: 4.2 KB

Name: 100_0605.jpg
Views: 958
Size: 30.9 KB

Name: 100_0611.jpg
Views: 923
Size: 45.9 KB

Its been a great conversion, suits the car down to the ground, goes well for 105 bhp and its been super reliable since it went in apart from a dodgy wire on the starter!

Hope yous like her

Was pretty damn easy to do it now i think about it - only thing was being a carbed model had to change tank and fuel lines for high pressure lines and make up a wee loom for fuel pump - apart from that very straightforward

Only bugger was my fault, used a cvh flywheel but forgot i needed one with pick up for flywheel sensor so it just turned over - box back out and on went an efi cvh flywheel, started first time

She should hopefully be at the scottish meet on Sun night then gettin ragged round Knockhill on monday night

original loom is still in the car - all we did was make up a small loom to run fuel pump then it was a case of a couple of lives and an earth for the injection system - couldnt believe myself how easy it was

Car has never let me down since

Sorry to bump up this post... But if the original loom can be used... why do people change it when changing to a zetec?

Mo - I believe the ideal donor car is an EFi XR3i as the wiring is very similar to the zetec - the zetec engine when used with the efi has its own loom so i just spliced it into my original loom for ease, basically the 1300 loom is powering all the lights etc behind the dash and that and the zetec loom is just spliced into it

Mellor - would depend on age of car i think, the later ones had an electric fuel pump and higher pressure lines so would be ideal as we were about to put a valver in a p plate 1.1 and everythin was there for us

Kaf mate S1 is still being restored but very very slowly

Meant to say as good fun as the car is, the engine and box come out tomorrow....

To be replaced with a 2.0 zetec and RST box

Should be even more fun, put the RST brakes on today and Recaro's are in - lookin for some smooth 15" Ford seven spokes for her now

Change back engine mount to modded cvh one and bolt up cvh gearbox and thats you in mate - rest depends if your running efi or carbs etc.

1800 zetec came out on Sunday, 2.0 zetec and RST box went back in, full mongoose (modded to suit) put on, S2 front brakes on and Recaros in too, got her running yesterday, sweet as albeit still on 1800 inlet and management but superchipped to help it along:
