AWESOME
Probably the best vid ive seen on here, barring the Aussie Bathurst vids
The twin drifting was the best, fucking superb, esp the bits with Phil vs Mulvey (even tho the track was a bit gay, was the bit between the 1st n 2nd corner as straight as it looks in the vid?)

10K+ Poster!!
yeah massive respect to the drifters...
your hitting 70mph down duffus(first bend) and its hard enough without thinking "fuck me i have to pull the handbreak here"
keeping the drift going takes big balls...and tons of skill!

Glad you're enjoying the vid guys - wondered where my bandwidth had gone
Well I video everything else and it just makes people happy, so if that's illegal then the law is WRONG
Sort of like those speed limit thingies
Cheers

Most the cars were coming into the first corner at either v.high revs in 3rd gear, up to some at v.high revs in 4th!
Initiating the drift at 120mph 200meters before the corner was the way, as per Silverstone and so on.

They were entering into Duffus fast but never 120mph fast. Granted they scrub off speed as they initiate the drift but I still cant see it as having been 120mph.
I'll stand corrected if im shown data from a data logger.
Regardless of actual speed, it doesnt detract from the skill, huge rocks & control needed .....a joy to watch

Stavros they were handbraking at the 100m board. Also no way were they entering at 120mph... They would've had to start from nearly the hairpin to achieve that speed. They only had abut an 1/8th of mile from the start to the apex of the corner...

Pretty much all the cars were coming in at 100mph+ tho, a corner like that is a high 3rd gear entry one easy, even the cars with under 300bhp were at high revs in 3rd.
Been in Brett Castles car at Silverstone and Brooklands is a similar length straight and sharpness of corner, and we was coming in at just under 120 on the clock, and thats with only about 320bhp and a "sensible" driver...

the driver i spoke to cant remember his name now but a HUGE guy in an orange car is all i remember but he said was about top end of 3rd gear and as said starting drift 100m's before
he also said it was totally different from the normal and took ALOT more balls this time
also listening to the commentator he said none of the cars were over 500bhp i thought.the highest powered was supposedly the pink sumo car.
how come its illegal to post the footage of the d1 and TA? there was nothing at all on the tickets telling you this or anywhere at knockhill?

Huge (tall and fat ) baldy geezer in an orange S13? Thats James, nice bloke.
And yeah, he nowhere near as fast as the very best, so if he top of 3rd gear then im SURE a few of the top ones are going in in 4th, well I know they were.
Regarding power, its like the jap D1 cars really, they all CLAIM to have 380-400bhp, when most have way more, waaaay more, if anything them figures are like wheel power rather than flywheel bullshit we used to.
Its the opposite to the Cossie world, in drifting you usually add about 50-100bhp to what they claim to get the real power rather than the other way around
Its the same in Time Attack "I was only running 1bar then so only about 400bhp" yeah right
Mark Luneys R32GTR (converted to RWD) is meant to be about 600bhp in reality, Sumo car is a good 500bhp, as is the SVA car.
Most powerful SX at the mo is Phils with nearly 450bhp, but Brett and Darrens both got 2.2s going in soon that should make silly power.
Most the cars are around the 330bhp mark tho.
Reason for vids is to do with Option who own the "D1" licence. They a media company and their rules (which are somewhere, no idea where) are no video footage to be put anywhere unless they do it, copyright and all that.
Glen has allowed this vid at last, and rightly so too in my eyes, as D1/TA is totally new to the UK and still attracts small crowds, and only way it will become as big as it is in other countries is for people whos never heard of it all to see vids like the above one and go "fuck me, that looks awesome, i wanna go see that"

You have to remember duffus is downhill, cambered, none of this flat stuff and I agree there's no way they were doing 120, GT cars are only doing 85mph when they go down it.

Ok, sorry, they lying, do apologise. Seriously tho, I dont know for sure, or care too much.
Put it this way, the datalogging from Silverstone the other weekend showing over 100mph at the END of the first corner/hairpin (brooklands) drift, ie after theyve scrubbed off loads of speed.
120 i dunno, thats just what they said, but more than 85 for the fastest ones, esp as 1 or 2 was in 4th.
Gotta remember tho that you enter the 1st corner in drifting WAY over the speed you would in proper racing.
Coupla quotes here...
First from one of the blokes who work for SumoPower
Second from the Distinctive Cars York guy who was competing in Eurodrift in the Skyline

Mark Luney was going past me at the start line in qualifying in 4th gear so I would say top of 4th or 5th gear by the time he got to the first corner.
Hats off to Mark Luney, during qualifying he was accellerating past the start finish line so he could get 5th gear into duffers!! Still trying to get my head round that now...

steve if you watch the other vids in the piture thread you see how much more of an angle the hill really is from the in car footage
