Default zetec on bike throttle bodies

bought these a few weeks ago for my new engine build for the xr2, finally got em so ive started getting them sorted to go on! let me know what you think

started having a play with them today, here they are as they arrived:

soon had them stripped down!

they come with electronicly controlled 'chokes' which the ecu opens by a servo depending on TPS and revs to give optimum torque. itd be an absolute bastard to map it into the megasquirt so im not bothering with it, so all thats gone! then i took the fuel rail and injectors off. ive got to space them out to get equal length inlet runners, so obviously the fuel rail is no good and is now in the bin.

ive been out today and spent a small fortune on bits and bobs to get them all uptogether. samco hoses, a huge pile of jubilee clips, fuel hose and T pieces to make the fuel rail etc etc. was gonna get some thin ally tube to use as spacers but couldnt get hold of any so ive just packed the gap with washers on a longer bolt, bit cowboy but will do the job perfect for now. gonna make up a fuel rail in a few mins, weld the linkage to reach now ive spaced them out by 35mm, plumb in the vacume hoses etc etc and will start drawing up the dimensions for the manifold later, thats gonna be the shit part :blub:

one thing im not sure on is the head side of the throttles where theyre gonna go into the manifold, not happy with the huge step up theres going to be, ive a feeling it might cause a turbulent area round the edges and fuck up the flow, gonna do a bit of research and see what other people have done. ideally id like to open it all out so its a smoother trasition but will see.....

linkage is not gonna need any messing about with, the std for cable will work on the spindle, then just needs the sheath clamping into the little eyes! can see the cold start lever on the left hand side, will run another cable to that as a choke cable for cold days, will raise the idle speed a touch!

and a random one of the TPS

cameras fucking about now so cant take any more pics, will try and get some tomorow though, hopefully by then ill have it all together and sorted!

tbh mate im not sure what theyre from, theyre made by keihin who make 99% of the throttle bodies for most jap bikes. ive been told they could be gsxr 750 ones as they have the dual throttles like. ill be running them on megasquirt V3.

got them spaced out, blocked the holes for the shaft for the 2nd throttles, started making a fuel rail and then called it a night!

fuel rail looks shonky as fuck at the mo but its just a mock up, gonna get it hard soldered/brazed by mate of my parents whose a plumber, then get it chromed so it doesnt fade/corrode (not because im a bufty...honest )

coming together!

Thats looking good there mate. Was wanting to do this on my zetec as well, but was told that the idle is not too good when using TB's? I too am using MS v3.

Here's a link that may help, from a quick glance they look a tad like ZX6R throttle bodies.

i dunno mate, i think these will be ok, theres idle speed bypasses for each throttle, plus a little linkage that when operated opens the throttles a tiny ammount for cold starting, and also a 2nd idle screw on the actual linkage which that black hose coming off it, this adjusts the idle speed aswell, so theres loads of ways to get it set properly, and be able to rise it when its cold like....

ah right cool, makes no odds to me anyway although having them all seperate would have been easier when it comes to making the manifold but nevermind!

I was mapping a 1600 16v fiesta on bodies and lairy cams a few weeks ago on a set of these nasty sock filters and it did exactly that, digested one of them down the throttle body and into the head.

Luckily we managed to yank it out and I pulled the others off till they could be replaced with a decent sausage filter the next day.

The customer then saw first hand what I meant about how shite they were (had already been telling him to bin them) as it gained literally about 20bhp when they were gone, they are just SO restrictive, which is why they get sucked into the throttles in the first place because the airflow pulls on them so much.

REALLY bad idea to use them.

Filters wernt used long, had no issues with ripping or going internal head but were changed something else.

They ran well on m/s and made just over 200 bhp on a zetec iirc.
