i changed the cambelt on my 1.8 zetec earlier, all seemed to be ok until i started it and it now sounds like a diesel and whines loudly. what have i done wrong?
i marked the cams and crankshaft before, and they still all line up perfect.
the car also drives perfect and revs up fine, sounds terriable though, the belt isnt too tight and has got fair amount of slack in it.

right its nothing to do with the cambelt it self, i checked the tension and its fine, so started it up without the alternator belt on, and it sounds fine, no knocking, no whining, sounds good, but when i put it back on it knocks and whines again.
so something to do with which runs on the alt belt, any ideas? i really need to get this sorted the car is sold and needs to be collected but i need to fix it first, only thing i could possibly say is the belt looks a bit jumpy, he belt it self seems ok, worn but wouldn make a tap sound, but the belt seems to wobble about a bit, tensioner feels ok.
