more updates

after a long day today, all the cables have been ran...false floor has been bolted down so im glad to say, i hope, we should be at the stage to begin making the wall! But thats for next week LOL!

Todays progress...

Voltmeter test fitted...ill get some better pics up soon

The back section of the MDF roof has been expandy foamed...roof is SOLID!

Front section of the roof has been smoothed out

DIRTY floor!

Cleaned up ready to go

All cables bar the RCA's are covered in braided sleeving and will have heatshrinked ends etc

I know this is extra and gains nothing for us, but the cables are secured every 6" or less

General wiring shots;

If your wondering why we have RCA's running along the B-pillar, its due to the Epicenter going to be roof mounted...which is what this is for...

Thats all for now folks! Be sure to tune in in a few days to catch the next update LOL!

thats mint, could you please explain why that much sound deadening is better?

just to stop other sounds being heard so its only the speakers?

to stop the panels from resonating at such a high frequency...when you tap a panel, the frequency of the sound it makes is relatively high pitched...by adding 1) mass and possibly 2) strength, into the panel, you can reduce flex and reduce the 'rattle' caused by flexing panels...the tap on a sound deadened panel sounds more like a thud...even if that panel moves and flexes, the sound it makes wont be very audiable...this stops the common rattling sounds you get from cars with subs in them driving down...the rattle is often so loud it overtakes the bass!!

Deadening also helps with the quality of the sound...a speaker on a solid mounting plane/baffle, will sound considerably better than one of a flimsy piece of metal...the energy that speakers use to move is really quite something

So deadening is used for 2 reasons, strength, and for dropping the resonant frequency of panels...the stronger the car chassis, the better the bass will sound...flex is kool...but it ruins low end bass

got a bit more work done yesterday...

Bit of a tight squeeze with the depth lol...but the fit is fine....the front face is VERY tight as we didnt want to have a step in the box.

Volume wise its over 18cuft before displacements (approx 17cuft after) tuned low

Front panel will be 3 layers of 18mm MDF same with the rear...top and sides are 36mm thick...port needs to be braced yet and the box resined and matted...hopefully the FG will go on tomorrow so it can cure until monday, then back panel on, bit of work here and there, extra baffles bolted on, and the box is built

flaring ports;

Rounded inner corners

Unfortunately progress was halted today by running out of resin, new batch will be here tomorrow so we can carry on with the FG, put the back section of the wall in, and carry on with the boot area of the build

Few better pics of the voltmeter

Tomorrow the plan will be to finish the FG, put the back section of the wall on, make the battery box, put the final layer of MDF on the front section (totalling 54mm front and 36 everywhere else), position everything in the boot, begin the cable runs and hopefully if theres enough time, work on sealing the wall in!

Forgot to update this for a while...ops! Right, the car is now playing but the wall still needs sealing off properly...We have temp side panels up but the roof still needs sealing off as the air is still going backwards...

Definately impressed with the setup...punches hard, drops low...does well for 3k of power for sure! Subs definately need more power as there is plenty more xmax to come...the alt is BIG let down to...being only 55amp we are dropping down to around 11.9v, then the protection circuits on the JBL's kick in and cuts the volume

Some wiring pics for epicenter etc

door builds

Tweeter builds
