Do you just use the throttle/engine power or you good enough to use the clutch? How hard is it to catch the bike using the clutch as it must come up fairly quick?
My mate can power wheelie his K4 GSXR 1000 top end second 110MPH not a problem, I have done the same but my 750 is all out of puff and I want to learn at about 30-40 in 1st as Im getting used to popping 1st up often now

I use the clutch myself .................. I think power wheelies are a fookin nasty way to learn personally
However some people swear by it ........... its just not for me and I tried both when I was learning but learnt quicker using the clutch

prefer power wheelies, first gear on my 600 SRAD back off the throttle then snap it open, a little tug on the bars helps too n up she comes
i wanna be able to hold it at the balancing point as long as i want, but cant do this
yet

power wheelies a bit harsh,if you cant change gear in the air,so you start off in first, too snappy for some!= heavy landings
2nd gear clutch ups are easier to learn, depending on how you clutch her up ,lower revs etc can teach you quicker, too much and youll flip it!
ive clutched up my r1 (98) on the track
in third at 95
and my busa clutched nice in second at 70,
a good tug on the bars as revs rise gets you airbourne in first on most bikes!
most bikes have a large balance point, sept the honda 600/1000,they are high and scary!
by the way its expensive when you spill, and sore!

cant do clutch wheelie but i find power ones easy now just need to learn to change gear but i can slow the revs down a little now once i get the bike up in the air.
i reckon i can manage about 60 - to 100 metres now.
would prefer to learn the clutch wheelie as more control of it but i have not got the gutts to rev it hard anoth and drop the clutch.

Depends on the bike.
My R1 was to vicious in first but most of my bikes (Blade, GSXR750, Firestorm) I've preferred to bring it up in first off the throttle, hook second as I approach the balance point then I can keep it there until the top of third which is when I begin to loose my bottle
Try to cut down on the wheelies these days, can't seem to help myself sometimes though

GOOD LUCK THEN. My mate is barely in control opening it on power alone, I dont want to do that. I have an issue with just hopping off the back when you over balance at 120+
How much throttle you giving when you dip the clutch at about 3000RPM, 2000RPM or more like 5000+RPM more? Ive seen no end of wheelie clips but it all happens so quickly and smoothly it made to look easy.
Any sites or training vids clearer than the Superbike Mag DVD??
Redline and dump the clutch

Heres the Superbike guide to wheelying to those that haven't seen it

My preferred method is starting in 2nd, shutting off the throttle engageing the clutch and grabing a handfull of throttle whilst re engaging the clutch. And up she comes nicely.
Whilst learning to do the above and to guage the correct amount of throttle needed/how far up to bring the bike and generaly get comfortable with being on the back wheel. 1st gear is ideal.

Thing is, I can easily get the bike up on the rearwheel...on the Buell on the throttle in first, when changing into second and sometimes even third if I sit all the way back on the seat
On the Husaberg in ANY gear on the throttle and in top on the clutch...
So no problems there...the only thing is...I back off....

in the words of fastbikes wheelies are big and wheelies are clever,the bigger they are the cleverer they are!!!! my mate used to clutch his old gixer 750 up in second with me on the back!!(it was more controlable that way!}
biggest tip for doing balnace point wheelies is to sit back in the seat. And if you doing 100+ while the front wheelies off the ground its not a proper wheelie, once you can balance it you should be able to slow the wheelie down using the back brake.
And for gods sake cover the back brake while your learning cos it will come in useful when you first get near the balance point and the bike goes all 'floaty light' and you shit your pants cos you think you've flipped it.
R1(99) second gear,
No need to change up cos im not picking up speed.

i prefare , william cow-plopper, personaly!
that be steve burns by the way,hes got bad legs now,but still makes bikes(special ones),
he had a gixxer engine in his spondon framed bike ,angled so it could wheelie for ever and not get oil-starved,thats how long ago it was, when big air wheelies for over a mile seized your engine through oil starvation.
what was that then, hmmm mid-late eighties,150-160 mph on mono'esce, per sey.james, you need more body in your script, this thread has years of wealthy knowledge of everything two wheeled, some have forgot more than what i know on here, and my minds brimming !
NEXT!
ps,check the busa doing a wheelie at 200mph over a rise on a motorway,on a dvd called GHOSTRIDER.
