Do you guys filter?
So many bikers are hurt when a car suddenly does a U turn in busy traffic yet bikers still filter. Just wondering if everyone does it?
I suppose when you think about it, it is safer to filter when there is oncoming traffic than it is when the oncoming road is clear...as you always get mr impatient who sees a gap and pulls out to do a quick u turn!
Random post i know lol its just something i was discussing with a mate today!

I was in a traffic jam once and we were next to a texaco garage and having been sat there for what seemed like hours, I decided to open the door and go the garage as we were not moving. I was in the back and as I opened the door a motorbike came from nowhere and hit the open door bending it back and falling off the bike.
I felt really bad, but all he cared about was getting back on the bike and leaving. I assume he wasn't a legal rider as he was very quick to leave, claiming he was fine when he looked as though he'd hurt his leg and his bike was a bit scuffed. Him doing one didn't bother me, as I didn't have to claim on insurance!!
Fucked the strap thing on my door, and it bent all the front door too, which was a shame. My own fault I guess. If my window was down he might have gone through it, lol.
Benni.

Nasty that Lee. Its always the risk we take filtering. You can see the Focus swing in before he gets to it, I look for things like that too when Im riding as Im always unsure if they are just moving aside to let you through or if they are gonna try and whip it round. Couple of my mates hate filtering behind me cos Im pretty slow and on and off the brakes whereas they just zip through. Id rather take my time and not have that happen to me thanks very much.

Let your mates filter first if they dont like it, youll be even safer then

We all make mistakes! Ive nearly wiped a bike out on a roundabout and i look for bikes all the time as i am/was a biker...i just genuinely did not see him!
I have been on a course up in kingston all this week and have been filtering pretty much all the way there (30miles approx) I cant belive the amount of people that seem to try and stop/slow you down by getting in the way,
had a young indian/asian bloke in a kitted up civic pissing him self with his mates as he cut me off so I waited behind him for a bit then the traffic came to a total stop so I pulled up the o/s side of him told him to use his fucking mirrors, he then called me a fool, think it is safe to say he didnt like having me punch fuck out of the mirror leaving it hanging, as much as I tried it couldnt get it off as I wanted to post it through his fucking window

What bike you got now? Gixxer still?
As much as i love bikes.....it's that type of attitude that sees alot of bikers on their ass after being hit by cars! As a couple have said, steady paced filtering so you don't have to sit in traffic is fine, but ultimately you are overtaking people which is always a risk when you're not using a seperate lane as such! Why on earth they think it's fine to filter at 60mph i don't know, it's so easy for them to sneak up on you without being seen. The thing that really pisses me off is when bikers overtake traffic when you're coming towards them, using your side of the road trying to force you off the road.....ultimately you're highly likely to come off worse when you come off your bike so why some people seem to wanna raise the stakes of it happening i don't know

dad only does it just above walking pace slipping the clutch as he goes, i hate to see these people who fly about on bikes because as much as they dont want it too, and other people dont, their luck is bound to run out one day and its really a shame for all bkiers to be tarred with the same brush imo
As far as speed goes I will do up to about 25 30 on the motorways when its at a standstill or very slow, I have no problems filtering at speed like when other traffic doing 50-60 on the motorways but my mate will not filter unless the traffic has stopped
Gotta love the front facing average speed cameras on the m3 motorway atm

when i took my bike test i was told to filter if you don't you are not making reasonable progress and fail, with saying that got knocked off when a lady in a BMW decided she didnt want to wait and just did a u Turn and they never find in a bikers favour as we are all hooligans.

car drivers not paying any attention to whats going on around them
in a rush so not paying enough attention
or just being a shite driver.
Unfrotunatly people pass there driving test but that doesnt make them a good driver it just means they can tick the boxes and reverse around a corner, imo i think everyone should have to sit a cbt as part of there driving test which might make them appreciate and understand bikes on the road
Fyi i have ridden bikes mate so i know what's what and have plenty of time for bikers....glad i made you laugh though
Doesn't really make any odds to me if you're happy to get knocked off your bike by a car safe in the knowledge that it was 'his fault' or he was being a shite driver, rather than perhaps trying to avoid the incident in the first place! As for making me laugh, you're comment of car drivers being in a rush did tickle me somewhat

Still have the old 750 yes but desperately want a newer one
i find alot of bikers have a good attitude and when possible i do move out of the way to let them pass safely, but as always there are the ignorant ones who dont give a shit and abuse you if you dont move not realising that although they have the speed they can not always escape. i use to ride up until 3 years ago when i was nearly wiped out twice in a week i just give up. both times inexperienced little tossers

You can asses a situation but 9 times out of 10 these types of accidents are cause purely down to the fact that the car drive wasnt paying attention.
I remember filtering 1 day and came up to a junction on the left so slowed right down as i came up to the gap in trafic there was a car in the middle of my lane turning right so i stopped. I sat there about 1-2 mins and waited for him to move off but when he did he was paying that much attention to the traffic coming the other way he totally over cooked the turn and started driving straight at the car next to me and at me lol.
I ride like EVERY other road user is a complete bellend and thick cunt and tbh the amount i come across i'm probally not far wrong lol
The majority of car drivers just dont look out for or appreciate bikes on the road end of imo
i do it - and ewas knocked off last year doing it. exactly as you say, nothing coming the other way so some prat decides to do a sudden u-turn when i am level with him and his mirror squashed my fingers and sent me down. i was expecting a stupid move though, so was only doing 10 - 15 mph and was not hurt and the bike (vfr) was hardly damaged
When i first passed my test when i was 21, i turned in to a complete LOON, id be going through Blackwall tunnel @ close to 100mph in rush hour at times
Now im older and wiser, and lost a bit of my bottle, im no where near as bad, but tbh you have to always be one step ahead and treat every other road user as a cunt!!! and you do tend to be able to spot a bad driver a mile off..
When i had my last bike id be filtering through moving traffic doing around 30/40mph id prob be doing 70...
