Motocross try out days
Really want to have a go at Motocrossing and am looking for somewhere to have a days riding with bike and kit all included with some instruction. Has anyone done this before or got any recommendations of where to go?
Preferably somewhere in the South of England.
Any suggestions appreciated

Not ridden off road but yes have had a license for 8yrs, thats why I want to do a try out day first that takes beginners
West sussex is abit too far but thanks for the info, really looking to do the Tony Moto track at Hampshire if possible. These try out days seem to be quite popular, have tried a few schools and most are booked up until May / June.

me and foreigneRS did one in attleborough, Norfolk. we had a crf450 and a 2 stroke 125 between us, but the clothing gear was stinky. it was only about Ł50 each all day, anyone interested contact Lings Honda of Harleston ask for Karl.
was a great day but knackering, helps with subsequent road/track riding though

Yep, i went on the Yamaha experience near brighton. I'd never even really ridden a bike before. You get as much motoX as you can handle, in fact there was an option of a final session and everyone was too knackered to!!!
Have a search for it. It's pricey (ish) at Ł175 but worth it when you consider how long you get messing about and all the equipment and tuition.

I should have done something like that. Literally had ridden a DT125 for about 10 mins round a field before i went and bought an RM250 stroker and took it to a local track lol
Sold that now as it was a proper beast and no good as a starter bike. Got a YZ125 a few months back and have been riding a yr in total and am proper getting the hang of it now. Really good sport well worth getting into gives a proper buzz

you just like to disagree with me beef does it make you feel smart how do you expect some one to ride a motox track if they have never rode off road you but hole
you have way less bike experiance than i do and iv actualy done alot of proper laning not just up the hills and you get to pick your own route over obsticals how is thatteaching you nothing the first thing you need to get used to is the waight distributin compared to a road bike you cant do that on a track you dumb ass
if your on a track its a jump then a jump then a corner then a jump if you aint road off road before dont you think that is a bit dificult

I suppose it depends on what trails who go on really. Yes i agree it would be better to get 'the feel' for the bike first though, before heading out on a track, especially as youve never been on one before. Just make sure you go on some 'easy' routes to start with as ive been riding off road and racing for around 10 years and i still struggle on most routes we go on lately. Some are ridiculous! As jacko said it will teach you more about bike control than any track tuition would. You really need to know and understand what the bike can do before pushing it on track.
Id personally just get a bike and all the gear and go for it (if your in a position to do that of course). Ive never come across someone who has tried it and then decided NOT to persue it again.

Your bike looks very nice and was on a good price at ebay but you removed the bids?
Was really looking for a 2 stroke bike though, yeah I know about that track and thats where I intend to do most of my riding, just for fun. Isn't there a track a Bicester called Lakeside?
@ dickie332 - Yep I might have to go with that, already tried them but they were booked up until May and I didn't want to wait that long - guess I'll have to.
@S1rst - Lucky for me I could but a bike outright but ain't that brave. Probably gonna have to dig the SV out the garage and sell that first as well though.

Hello m8 , yer the golfs gd just got back from having it sound tested at bedford aerodrome to make sure its with in there limits and its fine Got my 1st outing on track booked for thursday april the 9th cant wait !!
Yer ended up removing about 5 bids all told so the price has dropped right back down but im not to bothered to be honest if it doesnt sell ill just use it over the summer an then get shot of it over winter perhaps , The problem is people with no feedback / low ratings etc keep bidding on it which ive asked for them not to (these people in my experience are normaly just time waisters / scammers...... Still have to wait an see how it goes....
The Lakeside tracks been shut for a while m8 , i use to ride there a couple of years back an it was fairly good but quite compact,,, The track at flackwell heath h-wycombe called Z racing is a good one jed the guy who runs it does a great job an the track is always well looked after and holds off from flooding pretty much better than any other track ive ridden at so can be enjoyed just about all year round !!
Yer grab yourself a little yz 125 / cr 125 and im sure you will have loads of fun an never look back ...........

its not that i like to disagree with you jack and its not about feeling smart,
its simply my opinion isnt the same as yours,
as a complete novice to off road motorcycles ,in my opinion he would be better off getting a days tuition from a experienced off road rider,
them moto x courses dont just kit you up and send you out , they teach you technique , like how you use and manouver the bike , seating position and weight distrobution , and how to asses jumps ect ,
and your telling me you cant asess weight distrobution on a mx track , mx riding utlises weight distrobution far more than green laneing , you of all peopel should know that ,
im not doubting you have more experience than me , but that dont mean all your experience is good experience ?
how did you learn to ride a crosser ? i bet like most of us it was fucking about on a feild , then the hills and track ect,
riding up and down a bunch of hills wont teach him anything apart from building experience on a off road bike , it wont teach technique ,
its like a mx rider wanting to learn how to ride a road bike ,
would you send him out on a days riding with a bunch of people ( laning ), or would you send him to a trackday ( mx day), 1 on 1 tuition , learning body position ,cornering skills ,braking ect ,
what would benifit him more , out with a group or in a controlled enviroment where hes comfortable ect ????
like i said jack this aint about thinking who knows more , its simply my opinion against yours mate ,
