Default Anyone done the ring on a bike

A few of me mates are trying to persuade me to go to the ring next year and tbh all i have heard are horror stories of people falling off and cars knocking people off. These small issues of germans in porkas driving like lunatics and the fact a few of me mates are going with the view of going flat out which wouldnt be a bad thing apart from they havent got the tallent to go fast round the ring and its a 99% certainly 1 certain individual will be having a nasty off.

So has anyone been and is it bad or worth a go?

Absolutely lethal mate, i`ve been riding 33 years including 6 years of competitive racing and i wouldn`t go near the place on two wheels....

There is no run off ANYWHERE so if you make a mistake it`s almost guaranteed to be a big one, that coupled to the fact that the cars are faster pretty much everywhere and it`s a no brainer...

A track day is much much safer and more enjoyable

I went last year which was the first time Ive been on a track of any sort. To be honest I thought it was brilliant. Hes right in saying there aint any run offs at all & you do get certain people driving like absolute *unts, but if you stay reasonably sensible then you should have no worries. I can understand where the diva is coming from & to be honest hes got 30 years more riding experience than I have but purely on my experience alone, I had no probs.

I went on 2 differant days with the early evening session being alot quieter. But on day 2we spent the day watching people on differant parts of the track then went on at the quieter time.

It would be a hundred percent better if there was Bike only sessions, if you only had yourself to worry about and a few other like minded bikers it would be far safer, but obviously that would eat into revenues for the circuit and won`t ever happen i don`t think....

Think thats a good point diva having seperation laps between bikes and cars.On a personal note i've been caught behind a bus out there twice which shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.

i've been 3 times in cars mate and love watching the bikes etc but NO WAY would i take mine round. I'd only want to go out later in day when its quiet and even then wouldnt feel confident going too fast. Even if you promised to take it easy its all too easy to get carried away on a bike

Go without your bike the first time you go

I've been 5 times on a bike and absolutely loved it! (twice in the cossie as well!)

If you go, make sure its not a weekend or German public holiday and never go on if you have to queue. That means its too busy!!!

First time I went there were 11 of us on bikes and we had one faller, who was coming out with things like 'I am invincible' etc etc, in my opinion he deserved to crash!

Would love to do it on a bike, and if I get another (had a ZX 6R) then I will deffo make the trip once just to try it.

I'm not a nutter, but the Ring is awesome in a car, and I'm sure it would be the same on a bike.

Deffo get a lot of miles in on UK track days first though so you are capable of riding at a half decent pace, the ride with a lot of common sense and you'll stand a better chance!

Ive never done it in a car or on a bike, but i wouldnt even want to attempt it on the bike at all. It only takes a slight error of judgement and thats it. Theres just no (a very little) margin for error on a bike. That said, loads of people do it and love it im sure.

I went with my mate Jay (TEV on here) 3weeks ago in his Cossie and we stayed at a ring instructers place who also Marshalls on a bike there. Now I always fancied racing round on my bike but was advised to go in a car for the very first time and now having been round in a car I doubt I will ever go round on 2x wheels as Im not sure its worth the risk TBH
Our instructor mate Bren was just out of hospital for the 4th time and as Diva Rob says you dont have small offs there- Bren has broken his back 3x times and this time his knee was smashed in 5x pieces and he is bent double. His accident this time was due to a fluid spill he didnt see nor did the other 3x riders off straight after him, gutted.
Basically Bren can do a lap on a bike in the 6min ** EDITED TO SAY 7mins ** no problem and a 20 min car drive home also in 6 min, he does 13000 miles a year on that circuit thats 10,000laps and knows the circuit well but even he can get caught out and that for me is just not worth the risk, maybe I will roll round one day but IMHO it would be a waste to go all that way to roll round

I was also told that bike only sessions wont happen as then German government are admitting there is something wrong having to segregate bikers from car drivers- it is a public toll etc etc, The Gov wont do that as its a huge earner. but a clean track and a warm day would be superbdid you know it costs less to hire the ring out for a day than Donny park?!?!?!?!? RSOC held at the `ring in 2009 anybody LOL

What vehicles were these records obtained? I thought the Nissan GTR was the current holder but I don't know if thats a fact! Didn't the R34 Skyline hold it for a while too?

Anyone that can do it under 8 min 32 is a headcase, that was my best lap and I thought I was going to crash the car for about 5 mins of that!

It took me over 10 mins on the bike even after 10 laps as I was shatting myself! LOL

fine 7:32 then, whatever his race lap is I dont much care but you get what I was saying though- he is quick and knows the circuit well. details its just what I was told- I will edit my post to "can do a lap in around 8mins on a bike" alright with you?

and why would I dream about someone else doing a fast lap?

Cossie916: I know of a metro that can do "around" 8:40s and the ring too, superb!!

i've mastered the place in a car, so the bike is the only option left.

but i would only go on if it was very quiet and then just treat it like the road that it is, not like a racetrack that it isn't

you lads have got alot more guts than me, i wanted to go the ring on a bike too, but after actually going the ring in a car my views are....

you've got to be fooking TAPPED to go round the ring on a bike, as said, the cars are far quicker on most bits, its getting more and more busy and as rob (diva) rightly put there is hardly any run off space, its jsut as dangerous as the isle of mann TT imo but with joe public on the track too to make even worse lol
