56's is my all time fav too. Used to live near a main coal route line during the 80's 90's as a kid so happy memories of the rubbling engines of these.

Going back to model trains, the games moved on ten fold in recent years with digital technology meaning better control and things like real engine noise coming out the loco linked to throttle, or turn lol of your controller.

Ill get a pic of the big old loco on my staircase when i get home....Big old model train

my late grandad used to build them from scratch, got all the drawings/blueprints too somewhere at my nans,.... we've got one, my auntie has 1, my uncle has 3 or 4, and theres another 4 or 5 in the shed at my nans.

Used to build ride on ones too like the one at Cassiobury park in Watford, but at the Bluebell railway and places like that..

Theres about 8-10 all together in the family...and i think a few more up in my nans shed...

Good luck with your exams if you haven't got that far yet.

bet youre glad the 4VEPS/CEPs and other "slam door" trains are gone! pretty much all we had when i lived on the south coast.

Guards must have hated them as so many selfish twats would jump on/off the train leaving the door open so the guard had to run down the platform slamming all the doors as he went

Got stuck on a 4VEP just outside southbourne station for an hour as a kid. Was getting off there (where i lived) when the fucker broke down with the cab just over the level crossing just shy of the platform!! in those days they had a signal box and good old swing gates at the crossing then!!

I would love to drive them again.

A lot more skill required to drive them, especially this time of year.

A thread I can really get my teeth into. I have quite a collection of models but so far my only kitbuild has been this.

Dapol Railbus. Fitted with seats from an abandoned coopercraft Mk1 coach build, people from kytes lights (not that you can see them, the windows frosted from the glue but you can see them better in the flesh), home made wipers & motorised with a Hornby Pacer Mechanism.

I also have a Wrenn R1 that I picked up for Ł15, repainted it into black & applied modern high quality transfers. the model came with screwlinks when I got it. the buffers were changed for old bachmann ones I had hanging around & I modified the front cab spectacles. I'll try & get some pictures soon for you guys

Nephews eyes lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw the box so might grab a board and pin the track so he can have a proper play (and me too )

Rescued a couple of boxes from my mums place and had to have a play. My GWR loco hasn't turned a wheel for 23 years but other than being noisy it runs just fine.

Looking at doing a 7' x 4'6" board with a triple loop. Just a case of working out joining the sections as it'll need to go under the spare bed when not in use.

I just wish I could find the time to build one myself.

Last train I got was the 395 last year.
