can someone shed some light on this for me 'if you buy a cat d car should it state on the log book that it was a cat d .or should the previous onwers inform the new owner that it is a cat d

it only shows up on the log book if its a cat c car and the previous owner should tell you if he's a trader but im not totally sure a private seller has to tell you unless you ask

There's a text service I use to check the cars I buy ,

Send :

Check thenreg

To 88600

Costs around £4.50 although this wont tell you if there's finance owing on the car just accident damage -

I have dealt with cat c and d cars for years and no cat c only shows on the log book but this only happened about 8-10 years ago ( I think time does fly) before that it didn't show I have also bought catc cars which haven't needed a vic check so not on the log book but still cat c when you hpi .
I always tell people what it is to avoid confusion and the loss of a sale but was always told that by law no one has to tell you only if you ask ! I know traders that sell cat c and don't tell customers (I don't know how they get away with it) hope this helps
