Default Driver not owner

I have been trying to get insurance for me to drive a car, but the car is not owned by myself but by a friend of mine who is on disability.

She doesn't drive and I drive her about.

I find it quite amazing that several insurers (incluyding LV whom I have just phoned) refuse to insure me (for that reason only - I have no convictions or claims whatsoever). Some would insure me but only if I said my friend was my partner!

In my opinion insurance is the greatest con of our times and my recent experience has reinforced this view.

I would be interested to hear your views and any advice you might offer.

i thought you could only get insured through your friend? or get a banger insure it yasen make sure you get a covered on other car policy and do it that way.

im sure you could get insured by your friends insurance,my dad on disability and his parnter is insured through his disability scheme,im sure you can have 1 'nominated' driver.

she'd have to have her own policy to include you on.if she cant drive theres no chance of that. i believe its to help stop misuse of disability cars by family and friends.

If she has insurance on the car then you are OK to drive it (with her permission) on third party basis only

i think the best solution is insurer itin her name and put your slef on as a named driver then there should be no problem and should not affect the premium to much

Thanks for the replies.

As I say I can't insure it in her name as she doesn't drive.
