Sierra rear wiper/washer info needed please
Morning chaps/chapesses
I need to develop a wiring diagram to use an Escort rear wiper motor on the front of a kit car, controlled by a Sierra front wiper stalk
(see thread here : https://passionford.com/forum/techni...ml#post5007332 )
Questions :
1. Looking at the Haynes manual for a Sierra rear wiper, am I right in thinking that the rear wiper switch has 2 positions - the first to turn on the rear wiper, and the second a "push and hold" for the rear washer ?
2. When the rear wiper is turned "on", does the wiper work continuously, or is it intermittent ?
Thanks in advance

correct, push to put it on intermitate with the washer jet, "on" is intermitant only
2. When the rear wiper is turned "on", does the wiper work continuously, or is it intermittent ?
continous

so if you push the stalk away from you (?), the washer is on for as long as you hold the stalk, and the rear wiper does one sweep, stops for a bit, then does another sweep, but only as long as the stalk is held ?
or
if you only hold the stalk down for a short time, the washer works, and the wiper then does a set number of sweeps even after the stalk is released ?
but if the stalk is pushed down/pulled up (?) the rear wiper is on continuously ?
is the washer switch a button on the end of the stalk, or is it operated by holding the stalk in a certain position ?

if you push the stalk away to it's first cliked position it will wipe intermidiatly
if you push it further to the sprung position it will fire up the washer jet which will fire up the jet until you stop pushing and will engage the wiper to continuous wiping rather than intermidiate

I don't know if this helps, but on my xr4i, the rear wiper was intermittant, and the sprung loaded push when operated made the wipers sweep continuously whilst the button was pressed, it then reverted to intermittant, once button released from sprung position, don't know if estates are different.

On the thread linked above, the guy needs to have the sierra front wiper stalk operate a rear wiper motor fitted on the front of a kit car. As the motors self-park differently, I think it'll be easier using the rear wiper relay, rewired to suit, so it's the principle that's important, as you say.

You may have a problem then as the front motor does a full rotation and the rear wiper does a left/right switcheroo at some point so you may need to move stuff about. Unles you don't have the space and need to have it as it is in the original position ans configuration.
Can you mot just take the washer element out of the equation and utilise the normal push button on the end of the stalk for the water squirters?

Apparently it's going into a countach kit car, so presumably the guy's only going to run a single wiper. He came back to me on the thread and said that it's an Escort rear wiper that's used on the front of the kit.
The whole lot needs wiring from scratch - the thread was originally started because he's got a sierra column and stalks fitted, so wanted help wiring them up. I've been helping him out as I'd already created some individual circuit wiring diagrams for my car, but obvoiusly the rear motor on the front of the car needs a bit of thinking about.
