Is this a scam
Ok, my Daughter put her 55 Plate polio up for sale in Autotrader for £4800
She gets an email from someone in Spain saying that he wishes to buy the car for £9500 !!!
She gets back to him and says, yer whatever and leaves it at that
Anyway, This Morning, in the Post , she got a Cheque from the guy for £9500
The note with it says that, £5000 is for the Purchase of the car and £4500 is to be given to one of his "employees" so that the car can be shipped.
He said to clear the Cheque and contact him once Cleared so he can arrainge his employee to come over which would be ONE week before he collects the Car but AFTER the Cheqyue has cleared.
Anyone had a similar experience and if so whats the scam as she has the Cheque

As Dan says, the cheque will be a forgery or stolen.
The bank will clear it ok and you hand over your car and £4500 cash to this person and they go back to Spain.
Then sometime later the Bank will discover the cheque is a forgery/stoloen and claim back the money from you, you are then out of pocket and with no car!
Steer clear!

old scam that one. As said the cheque will be retracted at a later date, iirc even if it appears to have cleared it can still be retracted and a good while after.
They play on the greed factor 9500 blindes you to the clear and obvious truth that it is bullshit.
If you have anymore to do with it then you would deserve to get you wallet emptied.

the stolen cheques take time to get recognized so even though it's "cleared" into your account, and the money is sitting there, when they start to trace the money back to the stolen account they'll simply remove it again and you'll be fucked

lift the cheque up too a strong light and have a look to see if the cheque appears thin behind any of the numbers on the cheque ususally the MICR line on the bottom (the line with the cheque number sort code and account number on).
Fraudsters often scrape away at cheques with scalpels to remove details such as payee's or account numbers and then replace them with phoney ones. Doing the check i've just mentioned will tell you if the cheque is real or not but either way it's a scam and a half
If you need to know anyhting more about cheques then don't hesitate to ask me, I used to find fraudulent cheques daily for Barclays so I know my shizzle
