Black 03 EVO 8 GSR like new

£15,250 basic car

I would take the P1, it wont depreciate like buggery
Arhhh so you are the Oracle now How do you know it won't when others with lower mileage are selling for 3k less.... Do some homework Chip....
If you pay 3K over the odds for something to begin with it hasnt depreciated if you sell it for 3K less, you were just stupid to buy that particular one and pay the asking price for it.

If you find a good straight P1 with low miles for 12K on your travels, please PM the link as im definately interested in it

just go and drive a p1,then an escos and see which you like best! get insurance quotes, rebuild prices, costs of usual wearable parts (brakes,etc....) see which you can budget for better and make a decision from there. i dont like scoobies at all,BUT a p1 looks right, only one id think of really.

Does it have to be a P1 or would you consider an RA?

Im quite a fan of those, although like bigwig i dont like scoobies in the main personally cause of the image and how common they are.

The question that seand asked was *drive an 11 year old toyota carina everyday ( well it is a gti! ) and have sitting in the garage for the weekends a lovely low mileage imperial blue escos with loads of mods, or would you give it all up to drive a low mileage ( 30k ) impreza P1 everyday?*

To answer his question... there's no comparison, as an Escos as described above would win hands down over a P1 as a car to own, that's why I suggested, IMO, a better & newer alternative than a P1, namely an Evo as seand also said he was 'fed up of driving an old car though'

Jeeeez this is hard work

RedKop, for what its worth i agree with you that the Evo is a nice car, IF you can afford the running costs of one everyday coupled with the depreciation.

Default back from testdrive

hi all,

back now. was away all morning looking at the p1. what a car. completely standard with 32k on the clock and has alot of extras. prodrive mats / spotlamp covers etc. has not got the bigger brakes though.

somebody mentioned sell the carina and buy a saph. the thing is i have a saph and want to sell it. i also have a lovely s2 which is being sold this week. the imperial blue escos in question is rs cos' which is in cars for sale. its lovely and i live beside him. see it plenty and closest car to it would be arty lofts old escos albeit the interior!

one more person going to look at p1 then he is going to see who pays the most for it! the thing is i need an every day car as i had the 2 rs' locked in my garage and not being used much. i have the saph 3 years and clocked up 832 miles in that time! i have the s2 over 2 years and didn't put up more than 1000 miles in that time, just taking it to shows, which by the way any time i go to always came back with top prize for mk4 escorts

will keep you guys posted about what i will do.

thanks for all your comments!!

I can.

Depreciation is far less than on a Scoob, but I'm not bothered about depreciation anyway.

Than on a normal scoob yes, but the P1 doesnt depreciate the same way, its like comparing a Escort 1.4LX depreciation with an Escos

Personally im terrible for depreciation as my cars are always far too modified, i reguarly spend 10K modifying a car and its only worth 1K more after or whatever, which makes even WRX depreciation look mild, lol

Considering what I paid for my Escos 6 years ago and the mods I've done on it inc big turbo conversion, I doubt there's little depreciation at all currently.

WR1 Scoobs which were £30k new 18-21 months ago can be picked up for less than 20k now and they are a better car than a P1 and less were made. Some dealers are only offering 18k p/ex when traded in.

Unfortunately, it's just the Subaru image at the moment that is making prices plummet and the mass influx of used scoobs for sale. According to this article on Pistonheads from Subaru marketing, there will be even more... which will make residuals even lower.

Code:
Last year we sold 8,800 Subaru cars in the UK, this year it will be around 9,250 and, in 2006, I am aiming for 11,000 sales which is entirely possible with our new range and the additional Subaru Tribecca SUV models to be introduced late next year. We feel the Subaru range should be attracting 12,000 to 15,000 customers annually and we have the potential to reach 20,000 annual UK sales in five years

I have an Evo because its what i want, i am not bothered about depriciation as that would mean that you would never buy a performance car as there would always be a better valued car out there, but again t's all relative,

You might find prices stabalise abit on Evos what with the wait for the new 10's to come out

Mike, cant help but think that 10 revisions of the car doesnt help its value much.

An evo 6 sounds like an old car now we are on evo 9, but in reality is more or less a new car still by most peoples standards!

I know it isn't exactly accurate, or relevant but wasn't the Evo 6 faster round the 5th gear track than the Evo 9?

Newer doesn't always mean better! Look at Lotus's getting all comfy and luxurious in the same sense.

This all comes down to your personal priorities.

If you drive a P1 every day you will get some pose value out of it. It will be fun now and then but look at the negatives. You'll be paying a lot on insurance and petrol compared to the Carina.

Having really decent Escos tucked away will be very fulfilling. Bring it out when you want to have fun, roll it out of the garage for a bufty. You can work on it without needing to get into work.

For me it would be a no-brainer.

Actually, that makes perfect sense really and is exactly what i do.

But i would say the P1 was still an acceptable "weekend only" car anyway so still worth considering even if keeping the carina.

Oh yes I agree. The P1 would be a great garage car too.

Having a weekday shitter and a weekend stunner really seems to make sense.

when i used to use a nice car eveyday, i didnt appreciate it at the weekends, still just felt i was at work (i drive about 500-1000 miles a week for work normally)

ive got a truely awful 1.8 mondeo for the boring stuff in the week now, makes the 3door actually feel fast at weekends then!

totally agree with you there. I 'used' to drive a 1.4lx escort everyday, and prior to that a 1.4lsi astra for work. But due to unforeseen circumstances out of my control, i have been forced (lol) to use Colas Escos everyday for the past couple of months, and as chip says, it does take away the thrill of it if you use it everyday. Will be back to using the old shitter soon though

I have a 1.4 Astra and it makes using a washing machine exciting.

I know what you mean there Chip, when there was very little difference between the 7 and 8 but the 9 looks very similar but has a different engine just body wise but i do unerstand what you are getting at

Still i'm happy with my gas guzzling 8
