How did I know you were going to put this up! Looks scary and will probably be one of the pics in the future that goes around with the captions underneath or one of those strange facts type books

They said its not a near miss, a near miss is anything closer than 2 miles together! Fook me no way does that look 2 miles apart . But as said photos can be deceptive, but still awsome picture! lol

thats not a near miss, the requirements for separation are 1000ft which when you take into account that the jal aircraft is a boeing 777 which has a much larger wingspan than the dhl plane, the spacing will be more than enough it's just the angle with a zoom lens, must be a slow news day!

Don't seem real tbh. I watched a program on what would happen if there was a mid air collision over britain recently. As mentioned i'm sure it is not as close as it seems as the planes t-cas systems would ovveride and avoid each other (in theory..... )

If that plane was as closeas it seems it would have fallen out the sky from the turbulance the front plane throws up.
I forget the correct term for the void of air a plane leaves behind it, but its lethal to other planes within a mile behind it.

The DHL plane is an A300 which has a wingspan of 147 feet
The JAL plane is a 777 which has a wingspan of 199 feet
So whilst they are close its not less than (est) 200 feet height.

none of these are correct, it is the air traffic controllers and/or the pilots call to report a near miss, separation standards are 1000ft vertical separation or 5 miles or 8 km horizontal separation for aircraft at same altitude but these can and are reduced by pilots who adopt a "see and avoid policy", hope that clears it up

That's what the Yanky Nascar guys call Drafting!
DRAFTING
The practice of two or more cars, while racing, to run nose-to-tail, almost touching. The lead car, by displacing the air in front of it, creates a vacuum between its rear end and the nose of the following car, actually pulling the second car along with it.
