wtf is that bar gonna do if you start to drift sideways at 200mph and go into a tree NOTHING! thats what, if that things roll at 200mph it will just fold backwards... you could have atleast got a decent full cage

im afraid im gunna have to agree with needing more than that bar
i understand that you dont want a full cage due to using the car with people in the back ect ect, but why dont you get some back stays that follow along the roofline and down the c pillers down into the boot? a similar front system would be good but i see that you dont want to start cutting dash ect to get the tubes down to the front floor pan.

but please rod, at the least get some rear stays on there as unless (heaven forbid) you roll at a perfect 90deg sideways angle the roof will just push that bar and fold it like a twig!

you obviously arnt short of money so just get danny to fabricate you up some rear stays that will help hold that bar upright incase the worst happened.
as said, if your worried about being able to see the cage then just get it trimmed with roofl lining fabric. this is what we do on the marcos (but in leather) and it really doesnt stand out at all.

Yes I could fit a cage that is barely noticable from the out side, but the customer did not want this. Although the main hoop is in place and perfect to add onto should Rod wish for me to do so. Its his choice at the end of the day, I no when it left my workshop it was safer than when it came in

ok guys is ths cage for saftey of crashing or for stabilising the car

its ifs to stabilise it a little more then fair play

as for it being safer nothing then thats the same as me using a baseball cap with padded foam and a hoody as thats safer than a helmet,,,,,,,,,,,, still aint gonna do shite in the event its needed

im thinking its more a peformance mod than a saftey mod,,,,,,,,, or a advertising tool cause you cant see the underbody mods thats been done

danny that looks cool mate, well made and finished too

Well think I will add something here

OK Rod Hoop better than nothing

You are happy to drive it with it like that

Mark is happy to drive it like that

BUT

A/ Fair play if you crash it and hurt yourself, obviously knowone would care no family no loved ones no nobody, a ???? (obviously being sarcastic)

B/ Just how do you think you would feel if Mark was to crash it and kill himself what if worse he ended up a vegetable but still breathing, do you really think you could live with the "it was his choice."

Come on mate, not trying to be nasty or owt BUT YOUR CAR AINT A ROAD CAR its a road legal (with all its seats as well) RACE car.

Martins car was a road legal race car, you mention you wouldnt be doing anything like Martin did when he crashed, but your next comment was I did 170 today and 180 yesterday.

Just for safetys sake admit your car is now WAY beyond a fast road car and is as i said a car capable of racing speeds and IS used to do them MORE often than most race cars, and in different circumstances

Be HAPPY you got the fastest ROAD LEGAL car and then either cage it or say its time to call it a day as far as keeping it a road car and not a road legal car.

My car was never as quick as yours, but managed to pull about 160mph 5 up quite comfily thank u, how do I know, cos I did it lol, only trouble was we hit a dip/bump took off and flew across three lanes before landing, FORTUNATELY on that occasion held it and we all had a little bit of a giggle, BUT didnt have to end that way, and I couldve had the lives of 4 other people on my Conscience

NONE of this is in any way a dig mate, just something to think about

This newly found interest in my safety is to say the least very strange.
Both Mark & i have been whopping up & down Brunters for 5 years ( 19 official timed runs) & now its dangerous. Its always been that & we have with great attention to detail tried to minimise pending problems. Its a calculated risk & yes it can go wrong. The 5th gear run was beyond that limit in my opinion, but Mark chose to risk it. The Daddy Thrash was to my mind completely stupid, but we were expected to run so we did.
We will never run in Dangerous conditions again even if it is a mag shoot.

Seen my car described as a race car, well it aint, never been near a track.
Its my road car thats driven everywhere i wish to go & because of this i choose not to have:
A gearbox that sounds like a bag of spanners
Lack of seats for my friends
Teeth loosening interior noise levels.
A full rollcage

I think I can speak for most in saying that yours and Marks safety has always been a concern but now that you are pushing the envelope to previously unimaginable levels the need for some serious safety upgrades have dramatically increased. You are at a level now where by your own admission the chassis cant cope and pushing components into unknown territory like tyres so it all adds up to more concerns to folks.

Your car is a road legal and regularly driven race car [not a track car if you want to argue over semantics] in as much as its built to set records and perform on a level well in excess of its original running gear.
Your car has evolved with uprated everything so I am in agreement that some form of bespoke removeable cage has become essential .
This is not a dig and I don't have any hidden agenda. I admire your commitment not to end up with a full on racecar that is uncivilised and so focused that it cannot be enjoyed as regularly as possible and in fact strive for the same with my car BUT high speed driving safety is not a cut and dried matter so sometimes you need to compromise and in this case I feel the compromise has erred on the conservative side.

Rodney......do you beleive your car to be safe?...Do you also beleive if,God forbid, something broke on a top speed run that you or Mark would be here?...Were both your fathers Japanese kamikase pilots?

at the end of the day its Rod's car and he does not ask anyone to drive it that does not want to.

the thing only goes as fast as Mark makes it go, so he knows the risks.

We have all driven our cossies, rs turbos etc flat out at over an idicated 150 mph but none of us give each other hassle/opinions about not having a cage in our cars....

what do you think would be worse...a 200 mph crash at brunters with nothing to hit or a crash on your average motorway at 150 with other cars and lots of armco??

we all take stupid risks, so people please get over it or get out of the performance car scene...

While this has been going on i have talked to Danny & and sought his advice. Fixed rear bracing is Dannys minimum Spec so will go with that, it will be done tomorrow, what sort of service is that.
Thanks Danny.
Im sure it wont please all because it aint going to look like a Kiddies climbing frame inside. .
