Buy a Netgear PCI Network card from www.ebuyer.com for a couple of quid. Once it arrives, open up side of PC case, plug said card into a free white PCI slot, put case back together, insert supplied drivers cd into cd/dvd drive, install drivers, insert ethernet cable from NT Hell cable modem into router, insert supplied ethernet cable into spare port on router, and into aforementioned Netgear PCI network card.

Open router via windows and setup a wireless network.

15 min's top's to do that

Your cable modem should already connect to the PC via Ethernet?

If so, it's a matter of uplugging the modem from the PC & plugging it into the router instead. Then get another Ethernet cable to go from the router to the PC.

So your normal PC will be hard-wired to the router, and the laptop will communicate via wifi.

Hope that helps.

If your PC doesn't have a network port then you will need to get a PCI card ethernet card like this;

Slot it in one of your available PCI slots, boot up the PC and it will most likely auto discover.

Plug your Cat5 ethernet cable into it and open internet explorer. Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS tab. Click LAN SETTINGS and tick the AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS.

Then you will need to go in to the routers internal set up which you access from windows explorer. You will have the instructions for this with the Netgear router info. This will let you input the username and password of your ISP and allow the router to connect to your broadband service

The wirless modem should work fine as it is, but I think you need to set up the router setting using a hardwired PC, so you can "assign" your laptop to the wireless port of your router.

So yeah, get your PC hooked up to the router using one of them adapters and then follow the instructions provided for getting your lappy linked up wirelessly

So you got the adapter, plugged it in, did the set up and you now how wireless connection to your lappy and a normal wired connection to your PC?

Cool

Question - how quick is the web on the laptop compared to the PC?

I think these wireless access points have built in data encryption, and you have to kinda extend an invitation to assign a computer to the wireless BB service? I don't really know as I don't have wireless at home

Whats the make and model of your router and I will have a look for you? Unless someone else already knows...

you can set up wireless without hard wiring it in, i know because i did it with mine (netgear DG834GT) as i have two lappys and no pc, took abit of figuring out as this was the first time i've done it and i didnt have any instructions to look as the manual doesn't tell you

you will have to setup some sort of encryption that is explained in the manual
