you can set up wireless without hard wiring it in, i know because i did it with mine (netgear DG834GT) as i have two lappys and no pc, took abit of figuring out as this was the first time i've done it and i didnt have any instructions to look as the manual doesn't tell you

you will have to setup some sort of encryption that is explained in the manual
