You can declare it empty to the council who will keep it tax exempt for up to 6 months at which time you have to start paying it as a landlord

bish is right after 6 months its down to the owner

but if its still empty only 50% is payable i think from memory.

50% payable if empty or you can get up to a years exemption if the property is uninhabitable or undergoing refurbishment
