Default MAD Ade's car, what actually happened?

Forgive me if we already know, but I can't seem to remember. Does anyone know what caused his engine to let go last year? And what the plans for are now?

Cheers

I have checked everything on it and the only thing I can put the fault to is the spray jet not correctly alined which over heated the piston,
As the only fault with the engine was a neat hole in the center of the piston no other marks or damage.

Now running 330mm/Brembo 4 pots up frunt, 4x4 setup at the rear, seem to do the job now, going by the mapping Mark and I did back in October, numerous 170+ runs I seem to remember.

Too many roundabouts on the A404

i've seen the piston, and as mark said, there is no explanition other than overheating.

The piston is near new, i.e no marks on it, no DET, just the hole bang in the middle of it, where the oil spray jet should of been facing.

Just a question mark,

it wouldnt have been a faulty piston? or are the xray and inspected before shipping?

Oh BTW Loom will be posted today, could you give me you postal address again please mate

Will do soon Dave, can't wait to get back to Brunters.

Did lots of practice miles at the Daddy Thrash, feel much more confident now I've learnt the layout and breaking points.

Ryan the engine had coverd 5000 miles with no problems and the 185mph run so I think we can rule out a faulty piston,
I have a customer on the fatiuqe department on a top F1 engine company and I will be getting him to look at the piston in about 1 month to see what he comes up with,
The only thing we changed for the last top speed run and 1 year later was the turbo which added about 60hp to it this could have been the bit that put the cylinder temp up and the crown temp above the safe limit if the spray jet wasn't perfectly placed.

Mark highly unlikely IMO...i beleive maybe a temporary blocked jet at exactly the wrong time.

But i aint a pro

Phil what is unlikely, I dont belive it could block temp and the jet doesnt have to be far out for it not to spray correctly.

But Mark if the jet was a little out surely the hole would not occur in the exact centre....a temporary blocked jet would as the middle is the weakest point????

The piston overheated and melted no other damage, These pistons have a 8mm heigher pin so there is less space under the crown for the oil to hit its target, So you have to be more accurate,
The pistons are the same as Rods but with a thicker crown so stronger.
