Default Spark plug gaps and Det ???

Does the spark plug gap effect the risk of an engine detting?

i.e if it was set-up ok at 18psi with the plug gaps at 0.65mm and new plugs were fitted with gaps of 0.8mm and the boost still at 18psi, would there be a higher risk of det ??? (providing the boost isnt blowing out the larger gapped plugs)

With larger plug gaps does it take longer for the spark to jump the gap and ignite the fuel thus changing the timing a tiny amount

Cheers for any info

No, but plug TYPE does, so take care you fit the correct heat range.

Ahh cheers for putting my mind at rest, i dunno how these things work

Currently got Esc Cos PP8's in the RST, they should be ok at 18psi peak and 16psi held shouldnt they ?

Yeah, shouldnt be any bother at all, great plugs for your level of power Andy.

I'm doing some calculations at the moment to work out the extra angle the crank will travel through due to increasing the plug gap by 0.1mm.

0.1 mm gap @ 7000 rpm = 0.0000025734444 (recurring) degrees

It makes f**k all difference in the real world !!

how did you work that out simon?

i would of thought there are too many variables for the speed of arc in a chamber

made plenty of assumptions
...but illustrates that gap makes no significant difference to ignition spark timing.
