Default Oil temperature sender

I'm fitting a racetech oil temperature gauge to the cossy and i'm using a sump plug adaptor for mounting the sender, problem is the racetech sender has a M10 thread but all the sump adaptors come with a 1/8 npt thread, so question is can I use any temperature sender (oil or water) with the gauge? I think I probably can but just wanted to check with you fellas.

Cheers
Steve

No you cant use any sender, the sender has to have the correct resistence for the guage to get a correct reading. For example, there are loads of different standard water senders for FORD engines. If you ever look at one you will notice it has a colored plastic ring on it to identify its resistence. Its one of the 1st questions you would be asked by the parts man at youre local Ford dealer.Yon need an adapter to fit youre sender into the sump plug.Demon Tweeks has loads or try the dealer where you got the guage/sump plug/sender.Regards Micky

Demon tweeks don't do one m8, it's a 1/8 npt thread so are all the Burtons adaptors.

I'm probably going to end up using a Smiths oil temp sender which has the correct thread, the smiths gauge has the same range as the racetech one so the reading should be near enough the same.
