RST Suspension......

RST Suspension......
I think that since my Koni's are now 6 years old (kindly supplied by Mike R back in the day!!), I must soon consider replacing them.
The car has started to feel a little more twitchy, which could be on account of the increased power or could be due to the old suspension, or perhaps a bit of both!!
Anyway, I don't want to spend a fortune on it and have considered just replacing the Koni's.
Alternatively, I have considered putting Coilovers on the front and Koni's on the back.
Any other idea's??
What Coilovers/Shocks should I consider?

I would say coilovers on front AND rear if you're willing to do the work to the car??
Your first thinking of fronts only is also a good choice, but new rear koni's

Got Billies on my car all round. They are not as road friendly as the Konis at the moment but that may be down to it's set up.
Coil overs are a bit of a twat to set up compared to Konis. You ned to know what damping rate you want, what spring rate you want, what sping length you want, if you want to run helper springs.
With Konis, you just fit them.

If I had a Skyline, I could buy a full set of Teins for that (and not bottom of the range either!!).
For the price of the set of 4 Bilsteins, I could have Teins Top Spec Kit with Adjustable bodies, 16-postition Damping adjustment, Pillowball Top Mounts and a fully programmable in-car Damping-rate adjustment unit with Memory function and still have some change.

as we are on about escort suspension, what are the advantages of running top mounts?
Will be with coilovers, adj tca, and adj tie bars.
Would they (top mounts) be a worthwhile addition to this set up?
Will be using either gaz or avo coilovers on a mk3 escort.
cheers

Will that tyre size effect your Top Speed in any way at all, as you ran 195's before didn't you?

It sounds to me as though the Bilsteins are great, but in all honesty, probably over-specced for a Road car. I really aren't up for spending a 4-figure sum on the suspension. I reckon I'm gonna end up with Koni's again.
Incidentally, what are AVO like quality-wise, compared to Gaz? Remember, I aren't after rally-spec, I don't intend to race it on Gravel circuits or clear 6-foot leaps over crests etc.
However, I want to justify my suspension set-up which is already quite good.

if you do decide to go coilovers mate its the back that needs it not the fronts, you will see improvements in launching with reduced squating, i had some koni coilovers made just for the backs unfortunately they leaked so were binned but when this mod was dicussed with my tuner he said nothing about the fronts wich leaves me to beleive they aint that crucial, nutsruss also says theyd just compliment the rears not much more

I would like to go Coilovers all round but whats involved in doing the rears? Can it be done without altering all the rear set-up?
If only there were more people after cheaper Coilovers because I reckon I could get some made, but the run would need to be more than the interest I could ever get from here!
I love the look of the MEF set-up, but the whole thing costs £££££'s??

tbh mate id get the link bars and coilovers rear then konis front will cut costs to i know what you mean about doing half a job with just the rears but i supose its a budget thing if you can afford them why not i have herd some very nice storys about rst,s with link bars undertakeing cossies and flicking out the back end at will under control
