We have 3 in the family here at the moment. A 350, 320 and a 270CDI.
Out of the surveys back in 2002 for the competition, the Merc was top for storage space. X5's have a very small boot and storage capicity.
I have the 270CDI sat in my garage here and it is slower than a wet weekend. The 320 goes nicely but seems to be having some mechanical issues at the moment including a nasty idling issue at only 115,000kms. Already had diamond tipped spark plugs replaced which cost a small fortune. The 350 is slightly more refined but as you already have a rex and a 3 door, do you need a 4x4 with all the balls?
The 55 or Brabus would be

the x5 is alot smaller than the ml however that said the x5 would be my choice if i was in the market for a "chelsea tractor" as as has been said, the ml is a bit shit tbh.
realisticly though i'm sure you can pick up a audi a6 estate 2.5 tdi [180bhp] quattro for around 15k now this is a top car
if you are after a off roader though then the land cruiser is the ultimate

the most ideal car for ya mate is a transit,,,,,, 3 seats and room in the back fo the dog,,,,,,,,,, just does get embarresing when visiting family though,,,,,,,,, especiallyu is the missus it driving

old boss had a 500 ML that was ok but drank fuel!
but evo's do that too!
would rather drive the evo, but guess the ML would be better for transpoting the dog etc, very comfy for long drives too.

An Update
After driving the ML jeep a few times and finding it was like a Boat and the EVO too much ŁŁŁŁ for fuel
We bought a new car and Its Spot on and silly comfy with all the toys.

You dont need an evo by the sounds of things and that merc is gash like all mercs really. Do you need a 4*4 really? I hate seeing them on the road as if one of them hits you - you are fucked You mainly see them driven by 20 something women with 1 or 2 kids on the school run

The merc i prefere the evo and if i had the choice of the 2 as my ONLY car i would choose the evo everytime.
But why buy the evo when you have the scoobie there both very similer so buy something different, of sell the scooby and by both the evo and merc
