whats the best way to take a pin out of a chain?

Usually a chain cracker - available for various sizes (mtb to motorbike to...).
Usually a specialist tool though - Halfords probably won't have ones for anything other than pushbikes.

maybe if you state what the chain is off then it may help lol
some chains have a clip on them, so if its not a bicycle chain you may not need a splitter...

Hammer and a nail will split a bike chain easy if you dont have a chain tool..
