Default Whats This Wire??

On 3 Door Siera Cosworth, spotted it just hanging there the other day, anyone any ideas? It seems to run into a bundle of wires which run across the top of the inlet manifold.....

I'd take a guess it's the coolant temperature gauge sensor, which is just behind the cambelt cover on the side of the head. Is the temperature gauge working?

Looks like an earth to me.

It s brown, its bolted to the inlet, its an earth

The other end must go to something attached to the engine that is normally cut off from the earth and needs a hard wire to it.

Ryan

Temp gauge sensor on the side of the left hand side of the head

In the first picture it runs down by the side of the cambelt cover and goes onto the screw-type end that is there. It may need squeezing together slightly just so it pushes on better

Only feeds the gauge - not connected to fans at all

Fans are run off a switch in/on the rad.

Your temp gauge shouldnt move without that wire connected unless you are running an aftermarket gauge.

If you touch that wire to the block/earth and watch your temp gauge it should fly right the way over (dunno but dont recomend keeping it held there)

To test your fans look at bottom left of rad should see a plug on the rad pull it off and link the wires and the fans should run regardless of ignition state.

The wire you was asking about should push onto what looks like a scew thread comming out a brass fitting located where others have said.
