Well my 660+ yb is perfectly drivable round town, will be doing the comute in it tomorrow as per normal. Happily chug along at 1500rpm change down 2 cogs & its like a jet aircraft.
Perhaps some of you lads need to learn how to drive a Turbo car. Had to adapt from 500 to 600bhp & 660 requires a different technique again.
If boost starts at 4k never be below it when you need performance its that simple.
Perhaps 40+ years of drivin fast cars has made me more able to adapt.

i dont think the 24v is any better than a 12v it just hase more power out the box and people take the easy rute and fit it to save spending loads on a 12v
and ginge its not revs that get ya to 60 its the gear ratio(sp) as the V6 mt75 box has never dun 60 in 2nd but the V6 type9 box can
rich theres nowt wrong with a xr4x4 thay are good cheep runsbouts

my cossie is fine driving every day.
has monter cams,t4 and 1000cc injectors but idles perfectly pulls smoothly off boost.
would never really know it wasnt standard if you didnt plant it.
must be a combination of a well balanced and built engine and a good map

theres a difference between being smooth to drive, and smoothER to drive. One is more of an opinion, one is more factually based.
Some might consider a Cossie with monster cams, T4 and 1000cc injectors still smooth......most wont because thats just daft, lol
Also, alot of turbo vs n/a arguments have people saying its because you dont know how to drive it properly, and you obviously cant adapt or change gear etc...thats just bull. Ive driven some powerful cars, and owned a variety of unusual cars, and being 22 im young and learn fast. I can adapt to a car better than most, and i agree, a N/A V6 is much more comfortable for everyday driving than a tuned turbo engine.
TBH, after experiencing 4cyls, 4cyl turbos, V6, Straight 6, V8 etc on a daily basis........in my opinion the V8 is by far the best of all worlds.....and 4 cyl turbos are only better than 4cyl NA. lol.
You can get what power you want out of a inline 4 engine, but a V6 or V8 at the same power will nearly always be better.

I've owned 12 valved XR4x4s
24 Valve XR4x4
Cosworth YB 4x4
And 4.5 litre V8 RWD 3 door Sierra.
The V8 is in a different class, low down torque, more than enough top end power and a sound track to die for
24 valve is a better day to day drive than a YB especially if you don't drive far to work as the YB needs thrashing to make it any fun.
My current 4x4 is a 12 valve and the engines are a bit flat though are fairly torquey. A 3.9 V8 engine will hopefully cure that

I still drive for fun something thats near to nil in my Volvo & abundant in my Cossie. The Cossie is actually very comfortable, but a bit too noisy to have decent ICE , & thats all i miss.
Only cost Petrol/Maintenance stop me using the Cossie every day but ive put near 40k on the clock so it gets used a lot.
If i was your age & single the Cossie would be my main car, with my MX5 for Sunny days, but with a Mrs who refuses to even get in the car ( I had a race with a bike & she almost died of fright a couple of years back I have to have a Volvo, never wears out, never goes wrong & as boring as F**K.

PMSL @ This thread, as usual lve is in the air on PF
The only thing is the cossie just has to be revved more then somthing else with low down grunt. Just different types of engines and way the people like to drive. Myself im a lasy driver and love the torque of a Derv haha but when iim in the cossie i take it out for a purpose Infact i cant see anyone in this day and age really using them as everyday as any 17yr old car isnt the best to drive compared to newer cars

My work Sprinter drives better than my 24v sierra, more torque etc. - but the sierra still puts a grin on my face, and I can only afford one car for me (got a toy for me to play with when the missus isn't using it too) so I have the version that doesn't have cosworth tax on it or anything to do with it and does more than 200 to a tank around town....

if you dont think other people think my cossie is smooth then why did the first two people i picked up in it say" doesnt feel like its 500 bhp" when i was drving round town
they expected lumpy running and a need for constant revs...
the clutch is the only way to tell my car is not standard when drving it slowly.
my cossie is the best long distance car i have driven, and that comparing it to a M3 i used to have
