I would guess it's held on by shear bolts, can't remember a steering lock that wasn't.

Bolts that snap off when you tighten them up for security.

You have to get a decent punch and tap them loose

if its the same as a mk4 escort then usually you just tap it off the coloum

obviously you will need the steering wheel off so make sure the car u get it off has a key in there else you arnt getting it off

but usuall a good tap with a hammer should make the alloy housing slide off the coloum mate

get the wheel off mate, if its a mk6 and has an airbag, there are 2 small screws on the back of the wheel. you need to turn the 90 degrees either way to get the hole to the top so you can get the socket in. i used an imperial sized one as the metric didnt seem to fit.

if the steering lock is on, which it prolly is then you may be a bit fukked lol.

after ripping out the air bag, undo the big nut BUT DONT REMOVE IT FULLY - cant remeber size 24mm ish i think, then batter the wheel off hence leaving the nut on to avoid black eyes

remove all the switchgear and PATS stuff

after that there is 2x 13mm nuts, unto them, release the bonnet pull cable and the thing should just slide off.

if you want to remove the ignitioon barrel you need the key - turn it to pos 1 or 2 and then press in the pin at the bottom and pull the barrel out with the key.

again you may be fucked in a scrappy.
