try unplugging it and resetting it. mine used to be pretty crap on ch4,doesnt seem to be so bad now,but sometimes it freezes on one channel, wont do ANYTHING but u can still watch that channel!lol! like a bloody computer.more hassle than its worth,HOWEVER i now live in wales and have kept it so i dont have to watch shite welsh ch4 after 6pm!
Freeview broadcast channels on something called muxes - from memory there are 6 of these, and you should find that if one channel on a mux is causing problems, so will the rest on that mux.
If you doa Google you can find all sorts of info - I only know about this when I was trying to find out why I don't get Men & Motors - that whole mux is out of range of my aerial and I'm too lazy/tight to buy a new one.

Iain - you're right. Freeview, or digital terrestrial television (DTT) transmit over MULTIPLEXES, name taken due to multiple screen cinema's were known as Multiplexes, (MUXES/MUX) and there are 6. The BBC own 3 and ITV own 3 (IIRC) and channels are split over these. Usually when one programme is bad, all the others on this MUX will also be bad. For example, MUX 3 (I think) is the one that carries all the ITV channels (1, 2, 3, 4, News) along with E4 and More4. But E4+1 and More4+1 are on MUX 5, so if you can't get MUX 3 due to bad weather for example, you might still be able to watch these channels on MUX5...

For the ones that show up as either SCRAMBLED CHANNEL or LOCKED CHANNEL?
These are usually for Pay TV channels, like Top Up TV or subscription channels....
But to answer your question - I don't know... yet

Chances are it is your signal not being good enough, have a look at the weather when it is breaking up, if it is very cloudy/foggy/raining etc when it breaks up and fairly clear (cold clear frosty nights are the best for TV signals) then this is your problem.
My bedroom freeview box does it in bad weather as I haven't had chance to wire it into the main roof aeriel yet.
