Default MAF Sensor Question - Please help

I've been having trouble with my RS1800 for a while and it's been suggested that it could be the MAF sensor. Yesterday I decided to swap the RS1800 MAF sensor for a 1.6 Si MAF sensor (they're not the same), it didn't really make a difference so I put the RS1800 one back on, the car is now worse than ever. Was this a really bad idea?

When I put the RS1800 sensor back on, the car kept revving itself up, going between 500 and 2000 revs, when I drove the car it kep mis-firing, lurching and eventually cut out. The only way it will run now is when the accelerator is being depressed. It's also a lot louder than before and sounds awful.

What could have happened?

Any ideas or advice appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks mate.

I disconnected it but it hasn't helped much.

It seems to be worse than ever now, I think I've really knackered it this time.

Why would have changing the MAF sensor over caused so many problems?

Wish I'd never done it now!

Ok,
The management is adaptive and it has attempted to learn how to adapt the fuel pulse to tune into lambda based on teh WRONG info you kindly supplied it with. Unplug the ecu for 1 hr and start again.

I suggest you get her to a pro with a live data scanner to ascertain what exactly is wrong with her ASAP.

Thanks Stu.

I think I'm going to take it to Engine Advantages.

Just hope I haven't caused any lasting damage!

Car's now booked it at Engine Advantages.

It's keeps cutting out when the MAF sensor is connected, would it be okay to drive it to EA with the MAF sensor disconnected? EA is about 15 miles from mine.

Thanks.
