Well SOME people here are adamant that the wing makes almost no difference at all.

But then you do read all sorts of stuff on this board

All depends on your tyre profile too!!

My speedo under reads by fookin miles!!!

If I do 89mph on the clock, I'm really doing 100mph gps!!!

and the error gets bigger further up the clock!!

Which is weird cos the odometer is pretty much spot on!!

Have to agree with you Kev, I am sure if you put 18's on an escos,
the actual speed is faster than the speedo as my Garmin GPS satnav
says so too !

Well under 70mph as thats as fast I have driven since I had it

I seem to remember Ford quoting the standard escos top speed as...

144 MPH with the wing

148 MPH without the wing

I am sure "Doug Stirling" or "GoogleBONG" will correct me if wrong

I'm fairly sure Martin has done 180+ with and without the wing on his old 500bhp engine, iirc.

They were fitted because the Escort was designed as a 110-120mph rally car, so they needed the wings for homologation purposes (one of the few cars at the time to have positive downforce instead of lift at speed ). They were also standard on the ST Escort, but you could DELETE them from the spec, but IIRC, if you didn't do this, then the car came with them.

Correct, "Delete aeropack" Option

Didnt cost anything either... which was good of them
