This happened at 80mph in lane 3 on the M60.

Only the bonnet and screen are damaged so it could have been a lot worse.

I couldn't see adequately to get it over to the hard shoulder and I didn't want to risk hitting anybody so I slowed briskly in lane 3 watching the traffic behind me respond before I came to a stop although I pull it right onto the central reservation to allow more room for vehicles. I then got out and banged the bonnet shut and then got onto the hard shoulder.

If I'd hit anybody trying to move across blindly I'd have possibly spun somebody out and cause a pile up, it seemed safer to do what I did.

Sound like you had your head on at the time.

Its hard to make right choices when in the heat of the moment.

Looks like you made the right one.

easy thing to do here to help stop this kind of thing happenoing.....

Fix a steel cable from the slam pannel to the underside of the bonnet, it just means that when you lift the bonnet you will have to un hook the cable each time.....simple

happened 2 times to me!

happened on me s2 3 days after buying it, the catch kept sticking open (since realised it was due to a dodgy frayed cable)

windscreen, bonnet, vents, scuttle...

i pulled out of a go karting place drive, up to 60, then whoosh!!!! my mate behind said i only just missed the oncomeing traffic...!!!

also happened in my old 3i cab, but that was down to my stupidity!!!

i ALWAYS check my latch is not stuck open before i close it, even though i have got a new cable and lock!

Nice and useful, wonder where you got the idea from

I make these cables from stainless wire with plastic sleeve to stop scratch's. It is fastened in place with 2 of these.

It works a treat and is also a security device if you use the hooks with a padlock when away from the car

Regards

I was behind a crash damaged punto that did that...

stuipd people had obviously crashed earlier, I saw them coming up behind me on the M6 with a crupmled bonnet and 2 smashed lights....

they past and as they did so, up went the bonnet.

So the stupid girl driving hit the brakes for all she was worth and casued the car behind her to plough into the back LOL

Hopeuflly no one was hurt, I just fucked off as she swerved and hit another car in my lane
