Default Calibra Turbos

any info on them? any sites?

a good mate of mine has bought one for 500 smackers, no MOT, fairly tidy, seems to run ok, if a little noisily (sort of grinding noises undernieth).

nice interior, new turbo...

it has coosvaux stickers on it, anyone heard of them? any good?

what size turbo? t25? looks alot smaller than my t3...

what is the C20LET like? Transmission?

book times? etc.

pretty much kept up with him up this hill in my s2, both reached 110 at the top (its a private hill ), though i was quite impressed in the launching, what with 4x4...

whose owned one?

500 is cheap will break for over a grand for just engine and gearbox

cossvaux

they dont run a t typr turbo they run whats called a kkk16 it is smaller that a t3 will give up at around 300bhp if you have a good one at about 6k rpm on standard cams

the transfer box is utter crap they have a oil seal in them that goes and causes the box to spit its guts out
if there is a problem with the powersteering IE. low fluid this will damage the box but if you want to get rid of that problem just remove fuse 19 turning back fwd

book times = crap but cheap to tune

As far as I can remember are a bunch of jokers

Might not mean they have done any work on it?

It's probably a KKK16

The LET is a good engine (Have a look at Chip's sig)

Yo can easily get 280bhp out of them with a set of chips and a bigger intercooler

he works at an engine remaufacturing place, it was in for some work, guy said he wanted 700, mate offered 5, rest is history!!!

absolute bargain if u ask me, but im a little worried about its transfer box...

sbd16v

so if fuse 19 is removed, it'll be fwd? meaning the transfer box will not be in use? sorry if i sound thick, but my personal experience is with fwd escorts...

Nice price

Has it got leather at all? cos thats another £150-£200 depending on condition

I would sell the engine for £1k on its own, box £300-£350 depending on the current market, the rest isn't really wanted by anyone.

brakes fetch some money too, so do the wheels, and most of the panels and bumpers will sell but not for a lot.

the engines are great for 280bhp, BETTER than a stage 1 YB in fact.

more economical, less lag and boost from lower RPM too.

its going much past that which gets expensive.

Bargain, as said if its pish as a car you could triple your money selling parts

Cossvaux.....if I remember there was praise for the young mechanic there & he left & now its unheard of.....something along those lines!!

If theres noises from underneath then it could be the TX box on its way!! These are not cheap to fix!!!!

it had been standing for a month or 2 in the workshop, when he started it it sounded sweet (better than my cvh anyway). stunk abit when he floored it, but it was only a 10 mile drive, and he said something about putting some damp-start in the bores

bollocks, i finally had a faster car, now he does this...

he'll probably blow it up soon anyway if he drives it like he does his 318, always off the limiter, in his pathetic attempt to get the back end out!

www.migweb.co.uk are pretty hot on their Vauxhalls. Pretty good bunch of lads over there as well.

Sounds like a bragain even if your mate strips it and sells it in bits

A new transfer box from Vauxhall will set you back around £3000 fitted and even a reconditioned one will cost nearly a grand.

Even if its gubbed, he still got a good deal!! & the car will run ok on FWD...infact alot of owners opt for a locked box when theres go!!!

If its 4x4 you are meant to rotate the wheels regularly....this helps preserve the life of the nasty transfer box

secondhand transfer box is about 150 quid and they arent as weak as they are famed for being (they are shit, just not as bad as forums would lead you to believe they are!)

With 156bhp@wheels you would have beaten a standard escos in the same situuation, thats hardly proof an escos isnt worth owning!

Im amazed it makes 156@wheels if its only running that spec.

But a standard calibra turbo and a standard escos are pretty much on a par in a straightline race mate yes, so if you beat a (properly running) calibra turbo then you should do the same to an escos.

The escos is slightly more powerful but is heaver and less aeroydnamic (a LOT less aerodynamic if its got the wing!)

its only worth that much tim if u can give guarnentee with it tim, for the amount of labour costs it take to remove and fit 1, u may aswell have a new 1.

i only want £50 for mine cus i cant guarntee it, even though it came from a well known mig member

the calibra users the same floor pan from the cavalier and so a cavalier transfer box will fit if u need one that is and also u aint supposed to lower them too much which definately knocks the transfer box out. i think u can get a camber kit to resolve this problem though.
£500 is a very good buy though

remove fuse 19 and run it without the 4x4 system. its shit and would break anyway.

The PAS system is connected to the 4x4 so u need to reroute some pipes to get the PAS to work if the 4x4 is gone.

I used to have a detailed website on the vaux 4x4 system, but t'was a while ago.

get onto migweb and have a lookie there

Upto 40mm drop is ok, but as you said, you need a rear camber kit

transfer boxes are the weak point, apparently when you change the tyres you have to change all for so they have level tread cos that can make the transfer box pop, ive never owned one, ive never owned a vauxhall, but a lot of my freinds have, and this is info they have told me.
