E30 beemer.

I know i go on and on about them, but i really cant emphasise enough what a lot of car you get for your money!

Failing that, a 306 of some description.
Decent motors, mate has had a few, and every one has handled well. Turbo diseasel ones are popular aswell.

XR2 all day long man. they dont handle bad, easily modded, parts are esy to get hold of, they dont guzzle unless you lead-foot it every where, and ... well i love em so they must be good haha
and 1500 will get you a pretty good one

Im in the same situation as you and am considering a 306 Turbo D Sport. Ok it may not set the world alight with performance but it aint too bad, they look ok (IMO) and handle well. Also, good on diesel and only group 4/5 on insurance.

I had one for years - always drove it like a complete c**t and never had a problem with the handling - probably cos I never lifted off!

Im siding with the 306TD argument myself. Some of the sugestions so far have been laughable - but I wont say which ones just incase

Bit of a bummer when you lift off due to a deer in the road!!

They don't lift-off overteer badly its just they go sideways quickly and if youre not expecting it youre fucked because you'll run out of lock even with full throttle.

Lots of them went backwards through hedges as a result!!!
