new shells
there are LOADS of ford cars from 86 to 88 that had NO floor numbers stamped in em, is actually quite comon, my first xr3i had no floor numbers back in 96 and when i spoke to dvla about it they told me to get it checked, the old bill came out and looked at it and they said it was comon too but its the original floor on it, just never been stamped
that was it , DVLA said i could drop it off to em and get it stamped or get a local garage to do it but then i wrote it off 4 days later showing me mate just how fast it was

still cant decide mate even the gear box broke in half but it would be nice to rebuild do a concorse car with big bhp and chrome everything i can even the suspension, shafts, beam, everything and i can do all the paint work my self so thats alot of money saved
The VIN number has to be stamped into the shell and have another plate with it riveted on.
I'm building a car from a new XR4i shell and the local DVLA have issued a VIN number. When finished, it needs to pass an MOT using the VIN number, then pass an SVA test.
LVLO will then EITHER allow me to use the reg number from the donor, or issue an age-related reg number.
I've heard about garages reshelling cars while they were still younger and just stamping the original VIN into the new shell. It's not correct but it does happen.
If anyone comes across a set of stamps to use from below I'd like to know - I've tried to get a set, off and on, for the last couple of years.

restoration jobs that have had new floor pans wont have a floor number, that is nothing illegal. The law states you can remove a floor number but you cant restamp one, that has to be done by a garage and you need and invoice or reciept to prove it.
