Default Gearbox change. ????

Will a gearbox out of a escort 1.6 16v zetec car fit a escort 1.8 turbo diesel. The reverse is in the same place but on diesel there is a lift reverse mechanism. So if i change mechanism and box will it work.Or can i just change mechanism as i have a annoying rattle on my gearstick on my diesel and have access to a 1.6 car so nicking bits off it. Both cars are N reg Escort Estates.

So if anybody needs any parts let me know.

The petrol and diesel escorts use different boxes.

I'd of thought you could interchange them but you will need to change the driveshafts, linkage etc etc.

Well both cars are MK6's.

Mk6 Petrol = IB5
Mk6 Diesel/RS = MTX75

They are interchangeable, but as i said you need to change all of the components for the specific box.

im not sure mate

they are different Boxes.

derv =MTX75 as said

BUT IF the Starter motor is on the same side of the engine
then it should fit Straight on.
(some escorts had starter on front, some on back)

Beware though mate

MTX75 uses a Bigger Flywheel and clutch too
So if you are going for the change, then you will need the
Flywheel and Clutch from the IB5 car too
(along with gear linkages too as MTX uses lift-up reverse)
