Default Problems with cossy TB & Vauxhall TPS

I knew it! I knew i would run into some sort of problem with this atsome point

The vauxhall TPS won't fit on the cosworth TB, its totally the wrong way round, its far too small, and its doing my head in

Anyone got any suggestions at all? are the cossy & vauxhall throttle position sensor the same inside?

please I'm desperate, meant to be rebuilding the top end this week!

Yeah, i thought that. But the way the rod comes through the TB its 180 degrees out and makes the vauxhall TPS plug connector face towards the plenum, which means i wont get the plug on it.

See, its totally out I know there are quite a few people using the cossy inlet on their LET's but i can't get hold of any of them to ask what they did

I suspect both the TPS's will give the same 0-5v signal so just use the cossie one.

If you want to check just get your multimeter out.

Is that the range the cossy TPS runs to then?

I'm trying to think what the vauxhall one is Some of the vauxhall TPS are just a switch, they are either on or off. Then there are the other type that measures each move. If you know what i mean?

I take it cossy ones are 3 pin aswell?

I dont think any of them are still using motronic that ive seen, so not an issue.

There are a couple of choices of cossie TPS, might get lucky with one being the same as yours. (rwd and 4wd work back to front to each other)

Stu or SECS will know the details of the cossie one (voltage range/resistance etc), someone on mig will know the same for the vaux one.

Cheers chip

I don't go on mig no more though, so can't ask

So there is a difference between the 2ED and 4x4 TPS? I know no one is using motronic with these inlets, but i simply can't afford after market management right now, my court case has gone tits up see

I really must sort you out for that manifold Chip. I keep meaning to pay you for it or replace it with another, but its been so hectic round here the past few months Its even more hectic now i blew up the omega

Anyway, if anyone knows the voltage range of the cossy TPS i would be most pleased if you could let me know. Also, how would i test the vauxhall one with a multimeter? i got 3 pins

Get spanish fly to pop round.

Measure the voltage at the 3 pins at 0 throttle, then measure them at half throttle (ish) and then at full throttle.

I will do the same at the weekend with both types of cossie one and see if either are the same.

Dont worry about the manifold, no rush, just find me one in the new year some time.

Ps

on the VX one, the middle one and one end one will stay the same, and only the other end one will vary.

I've just this minute got off the phone to Rob, he had a look on autodata and the readings are as follows.

Testing with pins 2 & 3:

Closed = 0.1 - 0.7v
Open = 3.5 - 4.7v

one of the two cossie ones should be fine then.

I cant remember the exact details of the difference, but i think one goes to 0hms at closed and one goes to infinity (which is why you cant just wire them backwards, it reads right every except zero throttle IIRC)

given how little input the throttle actually has on that revision of the motronic though AFAIA, it should be fine if you get the right one

Post up and ask on here for what the readings are for the two types.

well thats what decent fasteners are worth

if you want something cheaper, use standard head bolts

I don't understand ohms

So whats the running voltage of the 4WD TPS? 0.1 - 5v?

Also Chip, another unrelated thing...got a mail back from SBD

Dear Spencer,
No sorry but there is not one made for the later head.

Dick

Ecotec? Hang on a minute. I mean C20XE/C20LET. There are two types, early which had the round tooth cambelt and totally differn't idler pulley setup, and later ones with the square belt.

Must have worded it wrong

To be honest mate, i wouldn't trust me if i'd said 'ok then'

Its not that i never pay, its just if i have something before hand to pay for later, i tend to 'forget' or drag it out....ask DFS They were stupid enough to give me a sofa and tell me to pay next year

For my own peace of mind, i'd rather pay you first
