Hmmm, mixed reactions! The reason I am chaning from my 6230 is cos the bastid thing keeps crashing - either turns itself off, or says SIM CARD REJECTED or just displays as no service. All three are rectified by removing the battery and turing it back on (and the SIM card thing has nothing to do with the SIM as I never have touch it) but it's fucking annoying as I keep missing calls and messages etc..... ![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
But sinc eI can't get the 6680 on T-Mobile I'm gonna have to go for this N70 - or get the 6230i which I don't want as it's the same fooking phone basically....
T-Mobile reckon it'll be here 2morrow (allegedly) so we shall see once it's charged up if I like it or not
If I don't it's going back

Well, £50 for an upgrade isn't over the top IMO. Unless you're a stingy coont! ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
They will drop down to £0 in a few months probably. My 6680 was £80 at first when I wanted to upgrade and I got it for free in the end...
Depends on what tarrif you're on and how long you have been with them as well. I was on £15 a month line rental and have gone onto a £25 a month line rental contract which makes upgrades cheaper.

Daz - I'm not a stingy coont, just a skint coont ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
To upgrade to the N70 was gonna cost me £190. I get to "lose" £100 of that cos of my upgrade bonus, so it'd cost me £90. Thats £90 I ain't got tho...
I need to upgrade as this piece of shit 6230 keeps crashing and fucking up, and the only other half decent nokia I can have for free of T-Mobile is a 6230i which essentially is the same thing!
So I rang T-Mobile up and told em I had been inthe Orange shop and they would do me an N70 for free and match my T-Mobile tariff, so T-Mobile offered to scrap the additional £90 upgrade fee and send it for free
(less a bloody £5.94 courior charge tho, bastids
)

As I have been with orange for circa 10 years and my phonebills come in at in excess of £100 a mth I expect it for free![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
You are right though when I phoned them about changing my 8310 which I'd had for about 18mths to the 6230 (when they were first released) I now have, they told me it would cost me £80... as I am on a £25 p/mth line rental tarrif... I asked to be put through to disconnections, they transfered me to retentions and agreed to send it to me![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
ONE DAY they WILL call my bluff

T-Mobile finally delivered mine today so I have been playing with all day ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
First things - the sodding buttons are horrendously tiny! The side of my thumb hurts a bit as in order to hold the phone securely and be able to press the buttons and navigate it with one hand, you have to use the side of your thumb, which is now sore![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Other than that, it seems, in many ways, incredibly over-complicated where it doesn't need to be. Also tho, some incredibly simple things and features that I have come to take for granted on the 6230 aren't available on the N70. Simple things like being able to set a personalised "Quick Menu" or shortcut list activated by one button. On the 6230 I used the left navi button as a "Go To" and listed loads of stuff like Alarm clock, calculator, Blueetooth menu etc under it for easy getting to - you don't seem to be able to do this on the N70. There is an "active desktop" type thing that lets you have up to 5 shortcuts tho...
Also, one thing that has annoyed me a tad - there isn't an auto timer for the key pad lock! I always had my 6230 set to 20secs, so I read a message and replied, soon as it was sent phone went back on the desk or in a pocket and the ky pad would automatically lock - this doesn't seem to have an option for that! Annoying!
It is a bit slow between functions aswell.... Haven't tried any video calls yet as I don't have any friends
Err, I mean no friends with 3G phones, err, lol...... ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
And the most annoying thing! It don't fit in my nice incar holder! Too fecking wide! Had that holder for ages! Got it for my 7110, then used it with my 6310, then the 6230, now this bastid don't fit![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Looks nice tho, is light and easy to hold. I just know the ally front bezel is gonna scratch to fuck tho - and again, annoyingly, the front cover isn't changeable, so when the plastic screen cover gets scratched and scuffed your fucked cos you can't change it![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Comes with some nice PC software and a USB lead which is cool as it was very easy to back up the contacts on my 6230 to the PC, then download them to the N70 using the cable provided![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
I gues sI will get used to it in time, like any phone. Just seems a bit long winded tho to be honest. The 6230 was a very easy simple phone, and part of me says I should have gone for the 6230i as a replacement but I fancied something different, plus the N70 has a bigger screen and a better (alledgedly) 2 megapix camera on it...
Time will tell I guess.....

reason why the phone is slower is its using system 60 smartphone software not your run of the mill phone OS.. youll get used to it after a while as anoying as it is..
basically means you can download loads of extra apps and games to run on the phone not just java stuff. mate had a program to turn the phone into a tv remote was class

More annoying things discovered (still playing with the fucker trying to set it up the way it would be easiest to use
)
1) the video system it has is Real Player (like the 7610 has) which plays both 3GP and MP4 files. Doesn't play MPG/MPEG's or WMV's (which the 6230 didn't do either) Whats annoying is that all the files I have converted from MPG to MP4 won't play! If I convert em to 3GP they play fine, but of course are lesser visual quality than MP4. But for some reason I can't get MP4 converted files to play![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
2) The reduced sized MMC card! The full sized (same as normal MMC and SD cards) that came in my 6230 was superb - bang it in my USB card reader and you can cut, paste, click/drag, do whatever with it. With this reduced size one, you get an adapter to make it full sized so it fits my card reader, and when you plug it in it registers it's inthere and shows all your files. But when you try and past/drag a video or picture or anything to it, it says ERROR, DEVICE NOT READY, even if it has been plugged for (literally) hours! Then it closes the card contents window and re-opens. So it won't let me add/remove stuff from the card.
Cos the Bluetooth adapter I bought keeps crashing my PC I had to uninstall it, so the only way to get stuff to and from the machine now (since there isn't an IR port as Damo pointed out) is via the data cable, which is good, but not as fast and easy as the card reader, and also cains battery life from the phone...
The only other gripe (so far
) is that the whole menu system and file saving/use is a lot longer-winded than the 6230. If you recieve a file (audio, picture, video etc) via bluetooth, then it goes into the "MESSAGING" folder. But you can't send it from there to anyone else. You have to open it, select options>save, find somewhere to save it (to mem card or phone memory, and save it. Then you can send it via text, m'media messagin or bluetooth (or use the pic as a wallpaper or audio as a ringtone etc. This is a bit crap as it is on there twice then (as in, it doesn't remove the original file you recieved when you save it elsewhere)
Maybe it's just me, but I always found Nokia's easy and childlike to use, and this one has me spending hours trying to figure it out and set it up/customize it to the way I want. To find things like the Alarm Clock or Calculator takes three times as long since it has 8million sub folders, and no way of setting a "fast menu" or shortcut for particular items....
Hmmmm....
Oh and Faye - if you have nails then you are gonna HATE the keypad. Seriously, it's fucking TINY. My mate has the 6680 and to be honest, the key pad and key layout is a lot better on that phone...

memory card must be a problem with your reader as mine worked fine that i had
like i said before the 6230 and n70 are totally different types of phones, youll find more and more nokias will move over to the n70 type of OS as the phones get more and more complex
you should look at windows smartphones their a lot better, can play anything you can play on a pc and if you can use windows u can use the phone
