Default Who does higher than 18psi header Caps for std fitment?

as i've just been done a local private road between 2 roundabouts (long enuff to hit about 105-110 mph)

was goin for it for about 5-10 minutes, and even tho my coolant temp was 91oC the header was seepin coolant (i've tried a few std caps and still does the same)

it only happens on that sort of abuse, normal top speed runs and its fine.

Can anyone advice me.

cheers Danny

have you got a standard header tank?

i have, and i find that the header tankl splits before the cap lets water out any way lol. im running with a split tank at mo (well not running , waiting for a new to arrive )

if your got a split tank it will lose pressure and force water out when it heats up.

i would like to upgrade to a high pressure tank and cap my self.

whats strange is the people running standard header tanks with no issues

try putting less water in so the air has more room to presurise and compress as the water wont allow it too

on my heap , my alloy header tank was distorted and the cap didnt seat properly. had loads of caps and didnt fix my leaking problem. sent the the crappy tank to a local firm that machined the cap neck and it was ok after that.

you either have a bad designed header tank or possable head gasket/engine issues

too much presure hence the cap relives it

Sorted it.

for all the help.

i got a old header tank, and made it into a pressure testin Rig, usin a air compressor and a regular.

I tested the one i had on the car and my spare ones i tried, and all of them started leakin at 8-12psi,
Then tested one off my Xr2, and a new pattern part one i brought today, and they both started leakin at 17-9 psi.

I'll let you know tomorrow if it cures it, if not i'll take the header tank off the car, and test the cap's on it, and pressure test that.

if its a shonky screw on cap - your gonna always have problems, it needs to be modded to take a proper bayonet type as above in damo's pic
