FPMSL @ 1.6 being a better designed engine Im gonna tell Ford that i want a 1.6 fitted in my focus cos its a better design than my 2.0l 16V ST170 engine
lmao, if you knew what you were talking about you'd understand!

If it's any help Autocar mag tested the 1.8 Focus with proper timing gear in the 28/10/98 issue.
They recorded a 17.1 seconds @ 81mph quarter mile.

A ST170 will only manage a 16- 16.5 sec and has 70bhp gain, a higher rev limit and alot more torque than a 1.6. Wake up and smell the coffee pal, infact theres a 400+ bhp RST forsale on Ebay, if you think a 1.6 does a 17 sec 1/4 then you'll believe that RST is 400bhp and a bargain

Hello!
I'm new here and i know this thread is very old. I was wondering, is there any difference between 1.6 zetec-s and 1.6 zetec-se on 1/4 of a mile ? As in, one is ford made and the other one is yamaha-mazda-ford made.
I have a 1.6 zetec-se (*estate ) ) and i managed a 17.3 1/4 mile with winter tyres and almost no grip at lunches above 2000 rpm.
Sorry for my bad english, is not my native language.

I doubt there's much in it over a 1/4 mile, if anything the difference can probably be made by the drivers at the wheel. Cant see how they've be miles apart.
