Stanley 'Tookie' Williams
Hi guys
Some of you may have heard of this man, some won't. Let me tell you a little about him. He is a man in America, on Death Row, due to executed by lethal injection at 00.01 US time (08.01am UK) tomorrow morning.
He, alonmg with another man called Raymond Washington founded the notorious Crips gang in Los Angeles in 1971. Raymonmd was murdered in 1979 and in 1981 Stanley was sentenced to death for 4 murders which he did not commit. He has been on Death Row since that day.
Whilst I am a firm believer in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a nail, Stanley is a remarkable man. Whilst in prison, he has writen numerous books, primarily aimed at children, educating them and telling them not to follow the path that he trod. In 2001 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Whilst he will admit he has done some bad things in his life, I for one see no point in killing a man who has so much to offer young people. Whilst there will undoubtedly be those here who would say he deserves to die, I hope that some will agree with me and say he would be of much more benfit continuing to educate the young.
His life is now in the hands of the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarznegger. he can if he deems fit give clemency and stipulate that whilst he won't be executed, he will spend the rest of his natural life behind bars. This is one of only 2 options, and to me by far the most sensible one.

The guy decided he was judge, jury, and executioner in 4 people's lives.
He should accept responsibility for his actions and his sentence.

Even if he didn't do those four, I've heard enough about the Crips (and other street gangs) to know that as founder he is responsible for many more deaths.

its a wierd one, hes spent what 20 years trying to help youngsters
steer clear of that way of life, and if he got through to just one of them
then hes done a job, and what about the next upcoming wave of kids, will there be someone there to try to keep them on the rails?

Well, let's see, he help start a gang that till this very day are killing their own people, innocent people and just last week there was a cop killed in NYC by a Crip member.
He is guilty for what he did, I bet if this was happening years ago after he was involved in those murders it would be different. Think if it was your family member that he killed, would you go up to him give em a hug and kiss? Anyway, when he gets executed in a weeks time he'll be old news this will all be forgotten.

but would he have helped young kids to not join gangs if he had not been locked up,i think not,i bet this man has killed MORE than 4 people in his life being in such a gang as the cribs,he is just whinging that he is gonna get pay back and all these do gooders forget what an animal he was /is

I never said that I forgive him for what he did. But I don't think its right to keep someone in jail for 20 odd years before you kill them, a bit sadistic IMO. I'm no liberal junkie, but I do belive in human rights and have studied Capital Punishment in the States, do you know it cost almost 4x as much to kill someone legally than it does to keep them in jail for a life sentance? Yet I would proberly agree with it if they killed someone close to me
the thing I meant about America, its filled with the type of people who would vote for Arnie to run one of the most powerful economys in the world just because he's famous, I mean whats that all about? and the fact that most Americans think the world should be run their way, ermmmm no thanks I like the way this country is and the traditions it has

trouble is this country is now turning into a complete joke.. people who do serious crime get away with it and those that go a few miles over the speed limit are the ones hit worst..
id take US ways like a shot.. people know the penatly for murder out their in a lot of the states.. so if they dont want the punishment dont do the crime in the first place

The UK is the only other place I'd live, and I do love it however, but I believe the government is starting to force it's residents to look elsewhere due to their poxy policies and inhabituatual taxation methods.

I work with the Courts and a lot of the Sentences are just a clip around the ear and told never to do it again. Like how many of you listened to your parents when they said that to you.
Like life is 25 years................Bollox, a life for a life I say the fooker deserves to die, after all the upset that they cause to the families left behind and he's sitting in a cushy prison doing degrees.

Yes our Country is a much better place than the States IMO, as for EscortWRC he's just the perfect example of what I said above about Americans being insular. If you actually lived here you would realise that we pay taxes for reason here. Although we dis the NHS its always been there for me in a time of need, if I'm hurt an ambulance comes and gets me and the Paramedic doesn't check if I have health insurance before treating me.
If the shops are just round the corner we walk, the news isn't filled with crap telling us to be scared of a paving stone, or the black man that might steal everything from us. IMO thats no way to build a society. Go watch Fox news

He could have helped a million kids for all I care, the so called good work doesn't spare him his life for killing 4 people and maybe more, the fucker deserves to die and should have been sent on his way years ago to save the taxpayer and a cell, and to be the founder of one of the most notorious gangs in the US, do you really think he spent his gangster days helping old ladies across the road without mugging them of their state pension?
