well thanks for that, any other ideas for getting a bit more airflow under the bonnet, preferably without the abuse

No more of a problem than a Mk4.
Not got them myself, but a friend has. Looks ok. I'd advise getting bonnet pins fitted as well tho due to the increased angle on the closing device to prevent the bonnet coming open

In all seriousness if your rad is in good condition then you won't need any other means of cooling the engine bay. If (and thats a big IF) there is any additional engine performance to be had from jacking up the rear of the bonnet then its negated by the drag from the vortices created by the huge panel gaps.

have to agree that i think it looks shite with them fitted

what you could do is just take the plastic surrounding off around the heater fan and the heat will go out of there aswell as heat comes out of the vents not in

the idea was to get more cool air under the bonnet, didnt realise that a couple of bits of metal would stress people out so much !, if id have to fit pins im not going to bother anyway, ty for all your comments people. this is now a dead post. r.i.p

I recon the MK IV still looks good from alot of angles. If it lost the roof gutters it's be alot smoother. reducing the angle of the A pillars (Huge engineering job admittedly!) would really make it nice.
Bonnet blocks would still ruin it though

My old black (well anthracite) on red combo:

I think the 1600i really suits them tho as there is a black theme running on the car with the bonnet stripes, front grill, bumper caps, overriders, door strips & rear spoiler.

So you gonna get some blocks then ?

I have them on my cabbie and they seem to do what i bought them for..... And thats to release heat from under the bonnet as i have no intention of fitting vents.

Do what you think is right mate, do stuff you like not what peeps think is 'cool'

I've got my cabbie just how i like it & thats all that matters

Or just make them up yourself for about a fiver.

TBH I don't much like the look but it does help to keep the underbonnet temps down a bit which is why mine has them in Summer.

Just get some ally box section and cut it down and drill holes in the right place and use longer bolts. Or pop to Halfords and buy longer bolts and stck the bolt with nuts to raise the height.

Since when has that stopped people copying the race car look on the road ?

roll-cages, harnesses, huge brakes, race-style graphics...and on..and on...
