FAO SKYLINE OWNERS
alright lads, right I went to look at an R33 GTR today, lovely car, but seemed a bit er slow
The car has meant to have done 39000 miles from new, and is in very nice condition, mind u it's been resprayed in a different colour and has a JUN style bodykit fitted, jun bonnet, nismo 400r arch spats and 19" bbs lm's, and a de-locked bootlid with Carbon fibre wing. (not keen on the bonnet or rear wing tho).
Anyway the car is std apart from the bodykit and a HKS catback system, Apexi Air Filters and Pace Intercooler.
Looking through the paperwork the car has also had a Power engineering stg 1 chip fitted, but it only made 335 - 336bhp on the rollers
This figure seem about right ? I thought with stg 1 it should be around 400 bhp ?
That said the only boost gauge in the car was the std 1 fitted by the stereo and it only just seemed to touch the 7 on there, so im assuming it's only running 7psi ?
If so with the chip fitted could I simply turn the boost upto 1bar ? or would it need another chip / remap before I could do that ?
The car seemed to drive nice, a bit of tramlining, but to be expected with 19's on it.
Seemed quick in 1st and 2nd (hit 75 - 80mph before the limiter in 2nd) but seemed very sluggish in 3rd and 4th. Are they the sort of thing that you have to rev through each gear to get the power from them ?
Sorry for all the questions, Just trying to make my mind up.

If its still running the cat that loses you shitloads of power so a decat pipe will sort that. The std 33 boost gauge is in bar not psi so its running 0.7 bar boost (std is 0.8 bar IIRC). 19s are too big for a 33 and will detract from the ride and handling. Skylines are rev monsters and to get the most out of them you have to paste them but many owners use 7rpm as a maximum rpm due to concerns about the std oil failing and totalling the motor.
If the turbos have steel internals you can wind the boost up but the std ceramic ones are dodgy at 1 bar.
Get a Skyline specialist to check the car out before purchasing.

cheers for the info m8
In that case I think i'll give it a miss as the turbo's are std, and it sounds expensive to get more boost form them safely.
Don't think I could live with it at the power it's at atm.

A healthy 400hp GTR will just have the edge on a healthy stg3 Cos (T34/803s/3bar/-31/chip/system etc).

Mine destroyed its std gearbox the other week so the knockon effect from that was it missed going in for some paint/carbon bits being fitted which in turn has delayed getting it on Autronic
Sequential box is fitted now and I'm just getting used to it.
