Advice please.....
Try again shall we - this is definately not a for sale ad!
How much should we advertise our cosworth for?? and any idea's what the running fault could be?
Pics below
1990 G plate - (private plate not included)
97K
MOT out tomorrow
SORN
Decent leather interior
Escort cossie wheels
Most sensors replaced recently
Engine has a problem - starts and runs but ticks over really high and when driving it holds back up to 4000 revs then goes like a rocket (has anyone got any idea's what this could be???)
(stickers were in engine bay when we got the car!!)

have you tried to turn down the base idle as some people raise that to hide potential engine problems,,,,, btw the base idle is a screw and not the throttle cable
as for it holding back, could be the actuator bar is loose
its not fitted with a T4 turbo is it

If i was using this forum to sell it surely I would not be telling everyone about its problems would I?
And if I was trying to sell it as stated I am a fully paid up gold member and I would have Have put an ad in the for sale section ffs!
Now I know why I use this forum so rarely!

Hi Chantelle,
I would suggest you get it checked over by a tuner to check the fault as this will hinder the price somewhat depending on what it is, and you will have a better chance of selling it if it runs ok
I didn't think for one minute that this was a for sale post. I just see it that the girl is asking for advice and some opinions on what we think her car is worth. Can any of you guys help her out abit?
She is asking 1.) What we think the car is worth.
2.) Any suggestions on the running fault.
I also think there is a considerable amount of informtaion missing if it was a for sale add Katie. There is absolutley no mention of the engine spec, of exterior condition, the description is very vague so that suggests to me that it's not a for sale post. She is also a gold member and if she wanted to she could advertise it in the for sale section
Edited to say as i was writing this about 6 more people replied so it now doesnt make sense pmsl

Had a diagnostics machine plugged in and it came up with the Phase sensor - replaced that and was then fine but has now started idling at around 2500 rpm - the throttle position sensor, idle speed control valve, rota arm and distributor cap, map sensor, ht leads, spark plugs have all been changed for new parts - many from PJ motorsport!

Hope this is seen as creative but there is three things as a "Buyer" would put me off.
No Tax
No MOT
Running issues.
Depending on your financial position it may be worth investing some money to raise the interest. As Nicole said I wouldnt deal in a swap for a van. And if enough is enough possible look into breaking it.

Just needs the tickover sorting now then....
Warm it up,disconnect the iscv(round thing on top of the throttle body)adjust the big airscrew underneath the throttle body clockwise until the tickover is about 800-900 rpm,re-connect the plug to the iscv and make sure the tickover doesnt change(if it does disconnect again and make fine adjustments until its ok).......
Should be fine then...

Have spent loads on it already!
And am well aware of things that put off a buyer - have bought and sold enough cars between us to kinda know that sort of thing!
which is why we are asking for opinions on its worth!

guzzler this is a nice looking white saph with loads of red stickers under the bonnet
also alot depends on location too i think as my cossie never sold too well at first but ive had 3 people offer to buy it off me for 4k and another has just said if i get it totally resprayed and its a decent job he would give me 5500k for it, thats a local mechanic too belive it or not
either way 1500 quid and a mk5 van is worth about 2700 to 3k as a general deal so its not all that bad imo
id get it fixed first though and sell the frst

Have adjusted the tickover with the idle speed control value disconnected but not matter what you do it as soon as it is reconnected it revs round to about two and a half grand!

spray some carb cleaner round the inlet manifold and tell me if the revs rise, sounds as if it could be leaking a tiny bit perhaps or the ISCV is opening up allowing air to pass it as when its disconected you said the engines fine
