well looks like a formula 1 car is the way to go.....

Funnily enough the guy making these comments at work had got an R6...

Ive got a TVR Chimera 5.0 (and a escort s2) and bikes are quick but not much in it from the lights...think it must be down to riders...

Suppose you cant fall off a car....

Can't get caught up in the mangled wreckage that was your car, body parts removed by steering columns, 3 hours in the car waiting to be cut free, clinging to life either

Makes me laugh when people say bikes accelerate fast. They are slow as fook compared to the REAL fast machines.
A lesson in acceleration:

First, some useful info:

* One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower
than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500. (+ 7000 hp )

* Under full throttle, a Top Fuel dragster engine consumes 1½ gallons of
nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same
rate with 25% less energy being produced.

* A stock Dodge 426 Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the
dragster's supercharger.

* With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the
fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.
Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.

* At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame
front temperature measures 7050 degrees F.

* Nitromethane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the
stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water
vapor by the searing exhaust gases.

* Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an
arc welder in each cylinder.

* Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way,
the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at
1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.

* If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in
the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow
cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

* In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must accelerate at an
average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph well before half-track, the
launch acceleration approaches 8G's.

* Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading
this sentence.

* Top Fuel Engines turn approximately 540 RPM's from light to light!

* Including the burnout the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.

* The red-line is actually quite high at 9500 rpm.

Putting all of this into perspective:

You are riding the average $250,000 Honda MotoGP bike. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the RC211V hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph (293 ft/sec). The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your wrist cranked hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you.
He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just
passed him. Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted
you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot (402 m) long race course.

That, folks, is acceleration.

BUT, as long as you don't meet a topfuel dragster, bikes are generally quicker.

Guys I agree that most bikes will beat heavily modified cars in a straight line but put them round the twisty stuff and bring braking into the equation and the car will blitz a bike with a good driver and rider.

Where I live there are some great lanes and always used to get bikes giving me a tear up with good riders as well (I ride as well so can judge a decent rider). They dont stand a chance against a car round the twists.

A bike is also a Barsteward to get a great start on the quarter would you agree? and can easyily lose 2 seconds to a high power 4x4 cossie in the first 1/8 th mile where the cossie it at its best.

thats because its VERY volatile! there is less energy in jet fuel! so of course it produces less power!

and thats all and well, but the 747 weighs hundreds of times more and goes faster,is more fuel efficient and doesnt require a rebuild every 10 seconds!

Nah the 6 would struggle Chip.......

Keith Brooks wasted me on my Zx6r in his 420bhp saff upto about 140..............I clawed it back from there till i was off the clock- but we were still neck & neck.

Think his times are in the techy part of perfomance ford if you wanted to check!

PS i don't hang about on bikes either!!
no i totaly disagree chip

up the quarter the 6 would win, over a longer distance the saph would due to a higher top speed

so depends on where you race

but its definately going to be more close with an R6 than with an R1

Come on.....I ride and drive and trust me I can waste bikes over a 2 mile stretch of lanes near me. And they are good riders.......Good enough to need a knee down not just to look good. There are also sections of 1/4 to 1/2 mile straights and roundabouts near me where bikes tear up and down all weekend. They cant beat a v fast car as the car out corners and out brakes them and generally gets a decent enough launch out of one roundabout to fend off the bike to the next.

Have you not seen the Clarkson video from a few years back. Base Carrera 4 versus an R1 round a track and the Porsche wins. Purely down to grip.

What does an R1 do a standing quarter in? 10.5? Take a second off that for your average rider maybe half a second? There are plenty of 11 second cossies out there????

I actually hate having tear ups with bikes though as would hate to see someone come off trying too hard.

I agree. in the dry, turning a bike around corners and bends is a hell of a lot more direct then a car, which when taking a corner is heavier, and wider so has to in effect swing wider then a bike. In the time it takes a car to turn into the corner and accelrate out, a bike rider can swerve in and point the bike in the exact line he wants to come out at before hitting the gas, giving the rider the advantage of being able to accelerate out of the corner quicker

Choreographed bag of wank aimed at it's target audience.

No way would Niall Mckenzie has risked his BSB championship chances by getting nerfed off by a porsche.

See the 5th Gear Gallardo v 999 video for a much fairer comparison, on a track that favours 4 wheels

Where dya live? I'll race ya

Kevin Sharp, your car is awsomely fast mate.

10.389 is incredible for a road car on road tyres

A standard £3000 GSXR1000K1/2 will get within half a second though

This will go on forever so lets leave at what we know.

There will always be a faster car or faster bike or a faster driver or rider.

Was just adding my fact based opinion rather than what I think might happen.

The lane tear ups against bikes were in my 911 Carrera S to be fair which would probably out handle and out brake most cossies as well. Might get beaten over a 1/4 mile or 0-60 by a quik cos though???

I do have a cossie powered car that would blow pretty much any bike down the 1/4 no probs but we wont go there......................

Gurne,

interesting bet you have against your mate, saying ur bike will beat such a powerful car any road in the dry. I had a bit over 300 bhp in my evo and I have a country road that I liked to drive in the evo, single carriage way so u can have your own lane. I have a feel that the bike wouldn't keep up.

Why do I say this? Well the roads a little bit like the nurburgring and the all time lap record of the ring on a bike is held by Helmut Daehne at 7mins 48 seconds. A basic carerra 996 managed 8 mins on the dot. My evo managed 8.16 BTG with not that much practice.

I'd love to have raced a bike on the doune road. it would have been MAD to have been passed There were some relatively good straights where the bike would have caught up/had opportunity to pass, I just cant see how it would keep up over the twisty little humpy bits of the road!

B8 on this forum and Neil_S and Dumped have all been out on that road. I would be interested in their opinions considering two of them were previous bike owners

Cheers

The ring favours Cars, everyone knows that.

I'd like to see someone have a decent go at the ring though.

That Hemut bloke, is that the lap on the BMW? I'd like to see someone seriously quick have a go on a BSB/WSB bike.

Or even just a lightly modded GSXR1000 etc.

Bud-Weis,

indeed it is There is a road there when you drive through doune towards dunblane direction, about 100 m after exiting doune you turn right, this road takes u directly to the roundabout at the top of the motorway M9. That road is my favourite road. The evo down that road with the dunlops on it was totally out of this world going on for 150 mph in sections. I have it on tape

That entire area was my stomping ground. Used to fill up the car drive it to the start of the doune road and maximum attack for one entire fuel tank in practice for the nurburgring

Gurne: I expect some of the top bike riders with todays 10 year on technology could beat that lap. WOuld be awesome to see!

Cheers

I've seen that too, and the results were always going to be clearcut.

The amount of money that goes into F1 and the major advantage of 4 huge tyres, proper downforce etc, the car was always gonna walk it!

Start comparing series with comparable costs and it would be alot closer

I can hand on heart say, if I was given the choice of a go in Jenson's BAR or Colin's RC211V I'd be donning my leathers

Now thats a good comparison.

I've got Getaway in Stockholm 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and none of then compare to Ghostrider 1, 2 or 3.

Ghostrider 4 is ok but he concentrated on winding up the pigs or playing with that swedish drifter.
Only problem with playing with cars is you have to go slow enough for them to get near

Ah the good old bike v car debate.

Come on guys you really can't compare the two as they are so very different. Simply, for the cash there is nothing to touch a bike.

I've raced loads of bikes and on virtually every occasion have lost. Love racing bikes though as even holding your own against a bike is a feat and bikers always give you a thumbs up after a tear up
